I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I did not see it if it had. I see references to this Narnian Timeline when we discuss the books. Where did this timeline come from? While for the most part I think the years and whatnot on it make sense, my gut reaction is to doubt it validity since the pages I see it listed on aren't exactly what I would call scholarly. Was it something Lewis came up with, and was later published in a companion piece? Or was it just something that appeared (that was possibly fan generated) and people have taken as gospel? Who are these people who are never mentioned in any of the books that appear on the timeline and what made them significant? Okay, the man who colonized and founded Archenland--that makes sense to me, but some of the names seem to be just placed on there as king or queen of Narnia with no rational explanation at all.
If I am completely missing something please let me know. Seeing as many of the discussions in the various books forums revolve around time in Narnia, and the timeline is often given as a source I think this issue is important to discuss. I feel it is important to make sure that our sources are scrutinized and validated, so we can base our discussions on textual fact, and avoid speculation and hearsay whenever possible.
So can anyone help me out with this one?
