Original battle?

In the movie, when edmund first arrives at the witches castle, he arrives unto a large frozen battle scene. Did the book ever get into who all those people were and why they are frozen? I presume there was a large battle when the witch first took over, or so forth the beginning of winter (which is probably when Digory's tree fell and he made the wardrobe?). If so, they show a quick glimpse of a frozen man and woman, were they the king and queen of narnia at the time the witch first took over? Were they the original king and queen brought from earth in the first book?

There is indication in the book of Jadis petrifying persons who are already captive and helpless, not still fighting back. I think that the statues Edmund saw were victims gradually accumulated over the decades of the Witch's rule.

A few things, no, the stories of the people and creatures frozen were never revealed. As Copper mentioned, the statues were of all the Witch's victims that she turned to stone over the decades.

Things that happen on Earth are not necessarily omens for what is happening in Narnia. They are two separate, physically independent worlds. Yes, the apple tree that Digory planted from the Narnian apple did move occasionally without the wind, but it fell down in a windstorm that hit London.

Jadis came to power around the year 900. Frank and Helen, the first King and Queen of Narnia, were long dead before then.
