Portuguese

As I've seen there are some people interested in Portuguese on the forum, I've decided to try and see if this thread goes on. :)

This is a thread for everyone who knows Portuguese, wants to or is learning it, or is just interested in it. It's not a 'learning' thread, but we can help anyone with some cool stuff if needed be. :D So, if you find it can be fun or interesting, please join!

In the three days I got to spend in Lisbon during my Navy career, I was intrigued to learn that the Portuguese language uses the same kind of J sound as French!

Intrigued? Why intrigued? Hum... I guess I never realized most languages use it in a completely different way. This unified writing system never ceases to amaze me. ;)

I was intrigued because, with Spain located physically in between France and Portugal, I wouldn't have expected Portuguese to be, in ANY detail, CLOSER to French than to Spanish.

That does make some sense. But we do have influences and things in common with the French (who doesn't, actually? ;)). Though French and Spanish pronunciation are extremely different to me, they have lots of similar words, I found.

I wonder if I can find some basic Portuguese audio for you, so I can know what you think of it - and how different you find Brazilian pronunciation from Portugal's. :D
