Short Stories

In his letters to children, Lewis often encouraged children to write their own Narnia stories. Of course, I think he was only fostering a desire to write as an adult, and that they'd branch off from Narnia and create their own stories. That was probably his hope, anyway.

But I think Narnia's universe if a great area to let imaginations run wild. Has anyone wrote any short stories in the Narnia universe they are willing to share?

The only problem is that if anyone does write a story or even considers publishing it, even with permission from the current copyright holders, the fans go ballistic and boycott anything and everything having to do with the new story. And some of those same die-hard, stubborn, close-minded fans reside on this board here... now... lurking. ;)

Personally I'd love a new story from a different author. :)

^

I am one of those die-hard fans as you have labled us, and I'd be happy with a new Narnia story.:p

And I did try to write a story with talking animals and such, and was told that even though I came up with it when I was like 4 (waaaay before I read Narnia), it was irellavent now because I'd read Narnia and it 'remined people of Narnia, and Lewis's writing'. oy.

Anyway I do agree some people would flip if another book/story was published/made, but still... actually The Archives of Anthropos is copied off of Narnia. Yet its different, and in so making it different and its own.;)

If anyone ever tries to make another Narnia book/story/anything, they should still make it their own. It would be a simple way to resolve much grief over it.:)

I have wrote some short stories that I had intended to expound upon, lengthen to novels, and then seek publication with. But my friends who appreciate Narnia say they're good the way they sit, since they do not interfere with the original stories (though some do intermingle with them). They think a book of short stories would be interesting.

But that isn't why I started this thread. I thought some of you guys might have jotted down some of your musings, and perhaps just wanted to have a short story shara-a-thon. Not for critiquing, but just simply to let others enjoy them. And for those who hadn't wrote any Narnia short stories, this might be a good reason to write one.

Son of Aslan, in the Professor's Writing Club further down on these boards, there are quite a few fanfics of Narnia, my own unfinished Legacy included. There are plenty of fanfics online. Just google Narnia fanfic and you will see the sites.

I have one already posted on here and another that I am concidering writing but haven't attempted yet (probably won't until I am done with Finals).

One issue is that the current copyright holders, the C.S. Lewis Estate, will not grant anyone permission to write additional Narnia material - wisely, I believe. But that doesn't prevent anyone from writing what they enjoy - I've even done so myself - it just means that it isn't part of the Narnian canon.

Incidentally, one of the finest Narnia fanfics I've ever seen, and one I think Lewis himself would applaud, was posted on this very forum. It was called Plumbing the Depths, written by member Malacandra. It's a speculation on what happened to Susan. In fact, due to some confusion with archiving, it got deleted, and is so worth reading that I may just repost it from the backup copy I made.

Also, since discussion of Narnia stories written by fans is best placed over in the Professor's Writing Club forum, I'm going to move this.
