Spiderwick Chronicles

It's coming out Feb. 15, 2008. Well before PC.

Simon and Jared will be played by Freddie Highmore (Charlie from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Sarah Bolger will play Mallory. Martin Short is Thimbletack. And they are doing all five books for the movie.

I loved how the main action of the last two books took place within a 24 hour period with the twins not even able to sleep and Mallory being in an enchanted sleep for part of it.

Martin short? Who's that?

Martin Short is a popular comedic actor (US). He was a cast member of Saturday Night Live and recently was Jack Frost in "The Santa Clause 3"

ive read one book i loved it but not the others.......i think my mom wouldnt let me read the rest :( Im going to ask my mom if i can read them again lol maybe now since imolder i will like them :)

That is correct. In the books, there are many different creatures each after the Field Guide that you see in the trailer. Jared does not know who he can trust, so he trusts no one. Even the fairies do not act nice, including holding one of them hostage for the book.

I got halfway through the first book when we went shopping for groceries and stuff xD My mum said I could wander round and I went to the book section and read half of it.

Now I want to read the rest because it was good and the movie looks brilliant.

I'm reading holy balcks other fantasy faerie tale novels, Tithe. its really good. they give me a good feeling. i LOVe faerie tales :}

Books Summary:

Nine-year-old Jared, along with his twin brother Simon, thierteen-year-old sister Mallory, and recently divorced mother move into the children's great-Aunt Lucinda's Spiderwick Estate, which is in disrepair.

While exploring the house, Jared finds a secret room that he can only get to using the dumbwaiter. He discovers it is the study of Arthur Spiderwick, Lucinda's father who went missing when she was a young girl. It is there that he finds clued to locating the secret book, Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You. Inside the book are descriptions of many fantastical creatures.

After finding this field guide, Jared discovers that the creatures in the field guide are real and not always nice. They unleash the wrath of the house brownie, who becomes a mischievous boggart, who pulls pranks that Jared is accused of doing.

After a while, he discovers that different groups of creatures, including fairies, an ogre (the ultimate bad guy), and dwarves want the field guide for themselves. Jared, Simon, and Mallory have to fight against all of the different groups to hold onto the book. Along the way, they also discover something amazing about what happened to Arthur Spiderwick.

Movie looks amazing!!! About to divulge into random spew of Spiderwick-movie-relatedness:
Is it just me, or is Freddie Highmore (who plays the twins in the movie) really attractive in this photo??

I just finished watching the movie. It was good although I was extremely disappointed that they completely skipped over virtually all of the fourth book, "The Ironwood Tree" which was one of the best books of the series.

We did not get to see Malory kidnapped, Jared and Simon go save her and my favorite part where they wonder if she is like sleeping beauty where they have to kiss her to awaken her. They also did not have to contend with the dragons, instead fighting with the other creatures whose weakness was tomatoes--this being done in the house, not Mulgrath's lair.

Most of the rest was done well. Freddie Highmore (Jared/Simon) tried so hard to have an American accent, but he bled his own a few times. Sarah Bolger (Malory) did a better job with her accent. (Freddie is British and Sarah is Irish)

The parts with Arthur Spiderwick (not the backstory) were fine. The part I disliked the most was the end. Without giving it away, it was almost antithetical to the book's ending. The movie's ending was a lot more touching, but the book's was more realistic and how it should have ended.

Yes, I heard that they skipped the fourth book's plot. I watched it yesterday, and I personally thought it was fabulous. I want to finish reading the books now. I was actually looking for them in the library, but they didn't have them.

Freddie Highmore and Sarah Bolger were very very good in the film. Sarah is probably the prettiest thing I've ever seen (even though I do remember having a petty hate for her when she was in Stormbreaker as she got to act with Alex Pettyfer xD). And, answering your question QSoN, yes, Freddie Highmore DOES look very attractive in that picture. I just find him attractive anyway xD I thought he was about 12 until I went to Wikipedia and found that he's actually 16 o_o' Which is suppose should be good news for me, as that means he's not too young for me, but still, it was a shock...

..i read the series a couple years ago..it was nice..i didnt get to watch the movie though
