The Chronicles of Prydain

Being a fan of Disney's 1985 animated feature 'The Black Cauldron', I've always been somewhat aware of the book series it was based on 'The Chronicles of Prydain', but recently I met someone who mentioned it wasn't unlike Narnia in some senses, and it seems (with much lesser popularity than Narnia) still to keep a fanbase and enough buyers to warrant box sets, guides, and the like. has anyone read the series and can tell me if they're worth seeking them out? What are your thoughts on them?

I read them the year before last, I got through them really quickly which usually says something. They're worth reading, the characters are great and the author has some interesting stories for them. I'd say the writing quality could be better but they're definitely still worth a read if you have time to do so.

SoA, I feel this series is worth the time. They may not have the depth that the Narnia Chronicles or LoTR have, but they contain a beauty and appeal all their own. Somewhere there is a thread already devoted to the Prydain Chronicles already on here...

I saw 'The Black Cauldron' years ago, but have read none of the books. However, in view of what I've read on this thread, i feel inspired to try them. Who is the author, and which is the first book chronologically?
