The Honeymoon Wormhole

Copperfox hereby spins his wheels trying to pin down a galaxy in the south, hopefully in time to pin down a reservation on the planet Dayzinn. When we last left Elsie Dangley, she was singing the X-Files Blues over a faithless lover who is unworthy of her. To reconcile the syllable count, "He's choosing Texas, I can tell" becomes "He chose the South Seas, I could tell." If identifying the cad is required, he'll be Chad Badboyington.

Okay, the hero is named Commander Clutch Video. His rank is recognized formally only on Dayzinn territory in the northern hemisphere of Dystopian Earth, but PLANET Dayzinn has the means to keep in touch with him. Interaction with Tetrapolis is plausible, provided none of Keith Klickman's characters get hijacked.
A female Lammasu will be around: Loretta Lammasu, not directly associated with Liam Lammasu. Fateful Doctor will be around in case a magical cavalry-to-the-rescue bit is called for. Things to be decided include hand weapons and space artillery }}}}} Latest insert: Young woman, Azmishi of Lebjayo, is brought by Loretta to visit Emma on behalf of the rotating council.

PRELUDE: The Universe Just Got Larger

"Mistress Trazella Dangley?"

The wool-knitting mother of Emma Dangley, one of Wild Wild South's most prestigious ballad-singing jewelry makers, was not accustomed to being courteously addressed by the breeze on her front porch. But she did know that there were more things in the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy and on Dystopian Earth than were dreamt of in her philosophy. Rumors existed, at any rate, that an invisible but friendly magical creature had come down the eastern escarpment to confer with a representative of the Lincoln administration. The gossip had now confirmed itself.

"All right, if you're what I think you are, you probably can eat hardtack with apple jelly."

"So I can," the now-appearing sapient winged beast replied. Her having no facial hair confirmed her femininity. "I am Loretta Lammasu. You've probably heard of Liam, since he's among our more outgoing people."

"Is there a reason why all your names use alliteration upon the word 'lammasu'?"

"Mostly habit. But generations ago, far beyond the world you know, there was a lammasu girl whose mother stuck her with the name 'Squigbupper.' The poor girl took up self-harm, tearing out several dozen of her own feathers before a Shedu gentleman intervened."

Trazella was taken aback. "You say a shady gentleman intervened?"

"No, a SHAY-DOO. As far as I know, none of them have made it this far away from home. A shedu is like a lammasu, a servant of the True God, only with a bison-shaped body instead of lion-shaped. Where we have magic powers, a Shedu --and yes, their females are also beardless-- has what your northern hemisphere dwellers call 'psionic' powers: that is, powers arising from direct power of the mind over material things.

"As you might guess, because the shedu have nothing to serve as physical hands, their levitation is a God-send. If offered food on a plate, they can make it float into their mouths. Likewise they can levitate the dirty dishes into a washbasin."

Trazella rose to her feet. "Can I interest you in some luncheon?"

Loretta replied with a gentle wing-pat. "Yes, most kind of you. I can wait that long before I make my contact."

"With whom?"

"That's a need-to-know issue. But I can tell you this much: it involves humans here in Wild Wild South who know about other-worldly beings. We'll be comparing notes in relation to protecting some humans who deserve protection."

Trazella could read between the lines. As far as she knew, Major Don Wayne was the only man on all of Dystopian Earth who had ever been honored by dramatic music sounding in the air all around him.

But of course, that was the central plot arc of Major Wayne's mission to Lobo Creek, which can be followed in "Gunslingers of the Fourth Galaxy."
