The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

This is a book by Stephenie Meyer. It's a Science-Fiction type novel where beings from another planet come down and they dwell in the bodies of humans, who are their hosts. There is some romance involved. One of the main characters is Melanie and she gets her body overtaken by a being named Wanderer, or Wanda. There is a movie adaptation coming out in 2013. It is such a fantastic book. And IMO so much better than the Twilight Saga. Has anyone else here read it? Or does it sound interesting to anyone here? The movie stars Saorise Ronan. You might know her for her roles in Atonement, The Lovely Bones, and most recently Hanna.

It's better written than Twilight, yeah. And I was more compelled by the plot. It's a bit strange to wrap your head around but it's played out pretty well. Not my favorite book by any means but not terrible.

The trailer for the movie makes it look awful, but teaser!trailers generally do that. I looked at the cast and it's generally good actors. It's going to be staring the girl from The Lovely Bones which she was fantastic in. I've heard the directors done some good things in the past, too.

I'm glad you think so, too. Yeah I don't like teaser trailers, because they don't give you enough footage of the movie to hold you over. I saw pictures of Saorise Ronan as Melanie/Wanderer and she looks fantastic as the character. The movies year from now, and another one that I'm anticipating to see. I hope they adapted it well.

It's been a few years since I read the book, but I remember really liking it. It was different in an interesting way. The plot, setting, and characters were well-constructed.

I guess the elephant in the room when discussing this book is its author. I think a lot of people shy away from reading it because Stephenie Meyer has such an awful reputation. But I would definitely urge potential fans to set this aside and give it a try... it bears almost no resemblance to Twilight.

I wasn't aware that there was a movie coming out... I'll have to research it!

That is so true. The Host is way better than Twilight. I enjoy all the deep Sci-fi/Fantasy elements and deep storyline plotted along the pages. I wish people would give this book a chance, and ignore that Stephenie's first foray into fiction was the Twilight Saga. And to go read The Host without any preconceived prejudice.

First and foremost: I'm indifferent to Twilight. Doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy, but I don't hate it either. It's because of this that I'm curious if The Host will turn out to be a good movie. I'm also a fan of The Lovely Bones and Saoirse Ronan, so, again, I'm keeping an eye out for the movie. I probably won't read the book though.

I confess I'm somewhat a snob when it comes to Twilight. But then, I'm somewhat a snob when it comes to romance in general. But The Host sounded interesting, sounds like something I would like. Please someone tell me that romance is not the main plot of the book, and I may give it a try when I have the time...

Isn't she such a talented actress? The Lovely Bones was great! I love both the book and the movie. Its ok if you don't want to read the book. I have seen quite a few pictures from the movie and I can't wait to see more clips of it.

It's not the... MAIN plot but it's there.
*spoilers* Melanie, the girl that The Wanderer takes over, has a love named Jared and in her continuously rebelling against The Wanderer's presence she keeps giving her memories or Jared and needing to find him again. The Wanderer also falls in love with a guy named Ian which is complicated with the whole sharing-a-body-with-Melanie thing.

I liked it better than the twilight romance, I'll tell you that.

I can handle romance well enough, as long as there's more to the book than that. From what I understand of Twilight however, vampires and werewolves and so forth were merely icing for the cake.

I just saw a teaser poster for the movie. It looks great, and reminds me of the book cover. I can't wait for the movie to hit theaters. I will include the pic of the poster below. The book is great. I recommend it, even if you don't like Twilight.
