The New World

This movie was stylishly and realistically done but was soooo slow moving in the beginning. Still, I commend Terrence Malick as a director for bringing an interesting historical view of Pocahontas and John Smith/John Rolf.

I saw this in the theaters and walked out. I spent a hour being bored to death. Even Collin Farell looked bored

So I wasn't the only one who thought it was sooo slow moving. I stayed only because of the scenery and the camera work, plus I love Christian Bale even more than Colin Ferrell. So he was at least worth it to stay til the end ;)

After wasting my money on Alexander I decided never to willing spend money to see Colin Farrell (or Angelina Jolie) in a movie. That movie had such potentional and they killed it.
So when The New World started promoting I rolled my eyes and said "not again." Colin Farrell is not the kind of actor you want in these movies, he's like an action flick type guy. Besides you can't make a historically accurate movie to a subject that has never been recorded accurately.

But despite the historical inaccuracies and Colin Farrell I would have at least rented The New World had Christian Bale been in the lead and if for no other reason the camera, costumes, and scenary were awesome.

I understand how everyone thinks the beginning is slow and we all know there isn't much diaologe throughout, but it is really deep and is very emotional!

Well there were a lot of emotions expressed without a lot of talking or dialogue. One of the scenes I did like was when John Rolf is trying to figure out why she won't marry him, and at first, she does so out of obligation or whatever. They spend a lot of time around each other without talking.

Colin Ferrell just has that dumb puppy dog look on his face. He goes and dumps her * sounds like a modern day guy doesn't he, when he's all, " Well, can you tell Pocahontas I'm dead?" ( rather than say, look, I'd rather spend time exploring Hudson Bay, not hanging out with a chick).

There were virtually no special effects...just a lot of great filming and natural locations. You almost could imagine that's the way life was back then.

In the extras it says how the filming took place for the most part 10 miles for where the actual events took place!

If I was a white man I would have been terrified of the Indians, I really would have been. There was something magnificent and terrifying about them. There was that scene in there where they also showed the men at the Jamestown fort boiling leather to eat it, because they were starving. It was grim living back then.

And they also mention kinda that they ate each other and they called the natives savages- how IRONIC!! they were so much happier, it really gives you another outlook on life with how much you can not have and still be happy!
