The seats behind Jadis

In mn Lewis says that there are more chairs behind Jadis in the great hall like they were meant for other people. Who are those chairs meant for do you think?

I'm not sure. The hall was filled with other lords and ladies possibly from Jadis' courts or maybe her ancestors etc. Those seats may have been intended for Jadis' heirs or could have belonged to her sister and her followers since they would have been involved in regal matters before the 'rebellion'.

Charn is only talked about in MN and how Jadis gets to Narnia is only talked about in MN. Like it has been stated in almost every thread, Lewis didn't intend on making the series longer, so he did leave loose ends. But Since her sister was the rightful heir to the thrown, it would probably have been Jadis' and her heirs that were supposed to have been there, but since Jadis uttered the deplorable word-----it changed everything.

I think the empty chairs are symbolic of the fact she was a control freak. So much so that if she couldn't have it all, nobody else would.

Chakal,

That is probably the most simple answer, yet answers the question the best.

She was a control freak, why didn't I think of that?

when i read the book i saw it as a hall of rulers of the history of charn so to speak. It began with people who looked happy, these were happy, kind rulers of charn from when the planet was a lovely place to live in. The faces get unhappier and unhappie, a slow descent til jadis.
