I love the sword of shannara! this thread is just to discuss the book- what's your favorite character, what did you like best, have you even finished it yet, etc.

I read it a long time ago. I'm trying to remember if it was Shea Ohmsford in that one. I forget all the time and they ever present family of the Leah's in there. That was the series that got me reading again after a long drought of inkdrops.

yes i'm not the only one thats read those books! haha!
hmm.... i've read all of them xept the Jerle Shannara one, and the new one
the High Druid of Shannara which i am currently reading.
lets see......my favorite would be The Talismans of Shannara. i just loved it.
yes i can understand when ppl say the language is hard to understand lol.
they're quite long and can b really dull at times but overall i really liked them.
hey Be_Happy wat was ur fav. book?

I would say that Allanon is definately my favorite character. He can do all sorts of sweet things like the Druid's Sleep. And he is so wise and mysterious.
My only problem with these books is that they are almost a mirror image of the Lord of the Rings. The cloak is the ring, Allanon is Gandalf etc.
But they still make great books and carry the story farther than Tolkien ever did. :)

Never read it, but can you tell me what it's about please?
It's about Shea Ohmsford, his brother, Flick Ohmsford,Menion Leah, Hendel, Balinor, and Allanon and they all set out to find the sword of Shannara to destroy the evil warlock lord.

I read the first three. I think I've got rid of them now... whereas my copy of LotR that I've owned for thirty years will be bequeathed to my grandchildren. Sword of Shannara I'm afraid I found to be derivative in the extreme, I mean, Alannon fighting something over a fiery chasm that he falls into? Please.

Tolkien's fantasy world had been a generation in the making before LotR was published, whereas Shannara reads like Brooks knocked it off in a hurry when he was behind with the rent.
