I decided to show a few basic things I did with paint on my computer. I hope you like them.

I like them. Most beginners start with Paint, I did. I suggest, if you want to keep doing this. That you use GIMP, it's free, and it very much like Photoshop. I use it, and love it. But these are very good for a beginner!
 
Although you have low quality pictures, the graphics look really nice! I can't wait to see more! My favorite is the dog one :D

I also suggest that you get this program for doing effects on pictures! (lighting, styling etc.) It's an AMAZING program and its free! It's called Picasa and you can get it here: http://picasa.google.com/

I see what you were going for here :).. Two suggestions though. 1) I like how you used a color already in the picture, but when there's so much blue already, you might want to try a brownish-gold, or a contrasting color, that's already on the picture. (Aslan for example) 2) I really don't like placing the text over the subject. It has an unofficial feel, and is hard to read..

Other than that, good work :D
 
I like that you are open to constructive criticism. That is the first step towards learning. If you are serious about seeing graphic design as an art form (and are not in it just to learn the simple tricks of the trade), I think you will only get better and better :). It takes time (I have been at it since 2006) and patience, but I think you have some potential.

That is a pleasing size for a banner, it fits well in signatures. I like how you off-centered Aslan. Very good eye.
 
This one is Badrang from Redwall. It isn't that good. It's kind of a joke because a lot of people think he's a wolf.
