Thrown weapons in Narnia

I just thought I'd start a thread to talk about thrown weapons in Narnia.

We all saw Lucy "throw" her dagger, beyond that everything is left to speculation I guess.

I wondered. Did Dwarves in Narnia throw axes? Were throwing spears, or javelins, used by the Centaurs or the Fauns?

Let me know what you think.

This is also a thread where you can bragg about your skill at throwing Spears, axes, and, or knives.

Mod's if this thread is in the wrong place feel free to move it.

Thrown weapons

They go by rather quickly, but there is some use of thrown weapons in the battle scenes. Especially the first scene, where the armies have just joined battle. There is also use of weapons traditionally thrown to knock riders off the animals they were riding.

The witch's army seemed to have a much wider variety of 9somewhat primitive) weapons.

As far as being good at thrown weapons, I am not. Although I suspect that I will be taught axe throwing sooner or later (Am involved with the axe throwing folks at a major Highland Games). It also looks like I will be working on some mechanically thrown weapons- catapults, trebuchets, etc.

I remember talking to an expert in medieval and Renaissance warfare once, and he knew quite a lot about hand weapons and how they were used. Literature and films to contrary, hand weapons like axes, tomohawks, and knives were hardly ever thrown in combat. The skill of throwing such things could be a campground amusement, and some extraordinary circumstance might call for throwing one once in a great while, but as a matter of course they were not thrown.

Why not? Because 1) it was too chancy, 2) it was throwing away a weapon while running the risk of 3) arming your enemy. Embedding a blade in a stump by the campfire is a very different thing than harming or killing an attacking enemy. The dramatic image of the hero slipping the throwing knife from his boot and skewering the Bad Guy across the room at the critical moment is the stuff of B movies, not reality.

The only weapons that were really thrown were those designed to be thrown - javelins, stones (from a sling), heavy weights ("shot", as in "shot put"), and arrows. Even spears and pikes were not intended to be thrown, but used as hand weapons.

I have weapons but don't throw them, although in many martial arts, of course, learning how to throw weapons are essential. I don't think the Narnian dwarves threw axes, but rather, used them as tools.

I cant throw weapons but i am a good archer (my starsign is a centaur LOL, i don't believe in starsigns much tho) the first time i ever did archery i got three bulls eyes in a row and one with my eyes closed, i hav since only done archery once for an hour or so but i got all bullseyes, i don't know why im so bad at throwing dart tho...?
