Unchangeable (poem)

I wrote this poem for a contest on www.inkpop.com. The theme was "forbidden love," so I chose to write about interracial relationships, which were looked down upon in certain times in history - especially during the Civil Rights era. This is something that I am very passionate about; why should skin color get in the way of love?

Comments are greatly appreciated. =)

Unchangeable
By Lila

Look up, reach out
Grasp my fingers
Pull me away.
Forget what they said
About different levels;
Of “right” and “wrong”
Of night and day.
Of dark and light
Of wrong and…
Right.
What is right?
They say it’s just…
What’s always been.
Been what?
Acceptable?
Is love acceptable?
Love is…
A union.
A blending of differences
That bear no significance
On what truly matters.
The fact is…
I love you.
And that is
Unchangeable.

Noble thoughts. With all the evils we face in the present world, one thing which can give us some satisfaction is knowing that now it IS much more posssible to love across racial divides.

Lila, did you ever read my "Alipang Havens" novel all the way through? Its plotline includes interracial love relationships.

I just read the prologue of "Alipang".... wow!!! That's intriguing stuff! I can't wait to read more - you have a knack for enticing readers. :)
