Walden to Adapt CS Lewis’ ’Screwtape Letters’ for Big Screen

I hope this discusion gose here if not, sorry :o Any ways, this is awesome news because I think the book was good and if they do make it into a movie it will be so awesome. NarniaWeb on the street distributed this acrtical so here:
Big news for CS Lewis fans! According to Variety, Ralph Winter (X-Men, Fantastic Four), Randy Argue, and Douglas Gresham (Lewis’ stepson) will produce a big screen adaptation of CS Lewis’ book "The Screwtape Letters" with Walden Media. The project is described as "a midbudget, primarily live-action pic" that "embodies Christian themes." Walden hopes to release the film in 2008. First published in 1942, "The Screwtape Letters" is a collection of 31 letters from a retired demon name Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood on the best way to decieve humans
This is very exsitting and very cool, but a big project and a big dream. All I can say is that I hope they make it good if they make the movie. Thoughts?

This is the first hint I've seen of a film adaptation, though I know there was once a live-stage version. Either form would of course expand "Screwtape" into more of a genuine STORY, by letting us SEE the young Englishman whom Wormwood is trying to trick into Hell.

If they do make the Screwtape Letters into a major motion picture, how Walden will deal with the Christian aspect is going to be interesting. In this film will they actually use the power of God working to help defeat the demon or will they show a film where human power alone will stop Screwtape? It could be a very religous film or a very humanistic one depending upon how they write the screenplay for it.

I hope they stick with the original story, but I worry that, knowing Hollywood, they just might not.

This appears to duplicate another, quite recent thread. On that thread, I mentioned that I once heard of a stage play being done of Screwtape.

Any dramatic adaptation will have to differ some from the book--because audiences won't want to see _nothing_ but Screwtape sitting at a writing desk, no matter how good the actor playing him is.

LOL! :p

It would probably be have a fair bit of the people that err...what's his name...Wormwood (?) is trying to decieve, right?
Any bits with girls in them? *Rushes off to agent*

Yes, the patient falls in love! With quite a nice girl, too, Elindil you would be perfect for the part in about 8 years ...

You know I just and ONLY just missed out on the part of a 21 year old in a play...they said I didn't look old enough...*cries* 21 is like only...6 years older than me...it's pretty diserpointing when they say "we like you, you'r a good actor, we'd love to work with you, but you just don't look old enough. Come this time next year and we might have a part for you!"

It's OK -- for lots of years you will be able to play people younger than you, and that will be better. Give you more longevity.
