What You Liked About The New Movie...

Fifth Pevensie

Ok, I'm sorry there's been a lot of furor the past couple of days over some of us wanting more positivity. I'd like us as a forum to try again. :)

I hope this is a better compromise. This thread is not meant to exclude any members. If you didn't like PC the movie, that's perfectly A-okay! Goodness knows the world would be a scary place if we were all happy clones. However, the topic of this thread is interested in hearing what parts (if any) of the movie people actually liked. I know I, as someone who loved the movie, really am always happy to hear the few good that others, who weren't so in love with the film, got out of it.

I don't ask anyone to stay away from this thread. I just ask that people stay on topic.

Let's see...from beginning to end...fave scenes:
1.) When Lucy and Susan come into the train station and see Peter in the fight and the look Susan gives to Peter.
2.) Edmund jumping into help Peter. Then telling him "Your welcome." and Peter responding "I had it sorted."
3.) When Caspian meets Reepicheep. That part rocks.
4.) When Peter and Caspian first meet and battle and Lucy stops them. Then when they all show up and Lucy says Reepicheep is so cute.
5.) The battle at the castle.
6.) The whole scene from beginning to end with the bringing back of the White Witch. Absolute favorite part of that scene when Edmund "kills" her again and then looks at Peter and says "I know. You had it sorted." That is the ultimate tell off without telling off.
7.) When Edmund "taunts" King Miraz with Peter's duel request.
8.)The duel and when Edmund fixes Peter's shoulder.
9.) The last battle.
10.) The going home scene from beginning to end. I so totally cried.

Ummmmm.....guess you could say I liked the whole movie really. LOL!

As you know, I have been very vocal about all the things I think were wrong with PC. However, there are many other things I liked about it. I have seen the movie 4 times and there are things I will never get past. But here are the things I liked.

I liked the music. I especially liked the opening theme when Caspian flees from the castle.

I loved Reep. I think they did get him right on! He was awesome. Exactly how he is described in the book. Noble, chivalrous, but very brave and fearless. oh, and funny as heck!

They god Edmund nealy perfect. In HHB it is clear that King Edmund is also a great king and warrior. Here they got him right. Skandar was great!

Trumpkin? He was awesome too. Peter Dinklage did an awesome job. You could hardly recognize him under all the make up which I think was good because that made Trumpkin all the more real.

The single combat. I think it was almost exactly as described in the book. So it was awesome to see it come to life.

The battles and the trees. Great choreography and awesome battle scenes.

The Telmarine army. Awesome costumes and weapons.

See? I didn't hate the movie.

The bumber one good thing for me was how well the CGI creatures and animals look! I totally adored the way Aslan looked! The size was perfect and he looks totally regal and majestic!

Reep was definitely awesome from the looks to the voice! They couldn't have done any better!

I also agree that they had Ed's character totally right on! Trumpkin was also great.

In addition to the Lucy bridge scene, I also liked how they made Aslan a bit more playful when Lucy finally meets him. In LWW, they left out the scene where Aslan plays with Lucy and Susan after his resurrection. In the book, he plays with Trumpkin by tossing him in the air. They left that out, but I did like how Aslan fell down when Lucy goes to hug him.

I'm also glad they left Edmund's immortal line from the book in the movie. It's the best way to end the movie.

MrBob

I loved the last battle =D (of the movie )

That was a really great climax! I thought it was a wonderful sequel to LWW's big battle. It was different --averting a seige, etc., but quite of a piece with what went before. And Peter's final battlecry "FOR ASLAN!" was very emotional and uplifting. Like, YES, THANK YOU!! For ASLAN, indeed! (sorry for shouting.)

I also loved Peter counting down for Caspian's cavalry. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, GET READY! He's mighty good at numbers, Peter is. ;) An important characteristic established in LWW, so good continuity. LOL

No, but I did love it. It had good pace. And Peter was so committed and finally truly kingly, with Edmund at his side.

The battle plan was quite intelligent, just as the plans for the Night Raid were. Of course, both were utterly insufficient without Aslan's intervention.

Let's see...from beginning to end...fave scenes: (1-10)
Ummmmm.....guess you could say I liked the whole movie really. LOL!

Awesome! :D Yes, I really liked the whole movie too. At first I loved bits and wasn't sure about others but after 4 viewings my opinion is cemented: I adore the film.

Btw, Edmund's line to Peter was true class. Brilliant! I do love how the brothers' relationship has developed over LWW-PC.

To Lady of the Lion's Mane: You're very welcome. Please pop in often.

To BarbarianKing: What an impressive list! :) Thanks for that. You are perfectly welcome to be disappointed in the film but it was heartening, nonetheless, to see how much you actually liked!

Now perhaps I shall post somewhere an exhaustive list of whatever I thought could be improved in the film. It'll take some digging, I know, as it must've for you, but our commonalities are worth the extra effort.

p.s. I loved the music during Caspian's escape as well. I also think the cinematography of that scene is just jaw-dropping. The night race across moonlit meadows...! Atmospheric, beautiful, and thrilling.

The number one good thing for me was how well the CGI creatures and animals look! I totally adored the way Aslan looked! The size was perfect and he looks totally regal and majestic!

YES! Aslan was a little bit disappointing to me in the first film because I thought he looked less real --the beavers too. I was really impressed by how much the CGI overall improved in Prince Caspian. It really made Narnia come alive for me.

In addition to the Lucy bridge scene, I also liked how they made Aslan a bit more playful when Lucy finally meets him.

Totally, MrBob. :)

You get a nicely rounded picture of Aslan between the two films. In LWW, he's majestic and somber. In PC, he's warm and chuckling. I did really love the side of him explored in this film!

Much better way to have a thread. The past issues of all opinions not being considered valid or acceptable cost the forum some long time prominent members who I sadly don't think intend to come back...ever. I'm heartbroken that any members who have hung in there with us for years could be treated badly enough that they'd think leaving was their best or only option. Thank you Fifth Pevensie for creating a more appropriate thread.

I loved Lucy and Edmund the most in the film. Trumpkin was awesome (but I hope he doesn't go on the Dawn Treader as far as the voyage goes...sorry, couldn't resist) I loved Cornelius and Miraz. Loved What little of Aslan there was except for some tweaking of a few lines. Loved Susan's dress at the end when they were still in Narnia...props to Isis on that one! Wow! Reepicheep was wonderful! Loved Pattertwig...too cute! Loved the bulgy bears...Shane did a great job with all the various parts he had which he's not totally given credit for. Gomez was an adorable little centaur! There was a lot to like in the film in many ways. The scenery and sets were amazing as well....great job!

I agree with you. :)
Saira (Fifth Pevensie) was clever enough to think of a better way to put the purpose of the thread than I could. For that, kudos to her. :p I was just so frustrated that I think it all came out in my wording. o_O

I LOVED the battles and the duel. I thought the initial part of the battle at Aslan's How when the army collapses the ground out from under the cavalry and then comes OUT OF the ground to surround them is amazing. Perfect strategy.

I liked Edmund's role. Very calm, solid, steadfast, and helpful. I love the White Witch scene. That was actually, in my opinion, the best dramatic scene in the ENTIRE film. Those who knew what would happen, like me, weren't surprised at the outcome, but how it happened was very cool. I also liked the trees, and Aslan's appearances. The ending of the battle at the bridge was very neat with Lucy and then Aslan roaring. I wish he had scared the Telmarines just a LITTLE bit more, but the river god finishing things off was neat. And the goodbye was pretty emotional in its feel, all things considered (even the you-know-what, in my opinion).

Into The Wardrobe: I'm so glad the mods approve this thread. And it was good to hear your high points of the film! I did love Aslan so in this film. His expressions, especially! He has this elegant kind of dimple in his cheek which is just a perfect touch.

Rachel: Thanks but no need to give me credit. I'm just using your idea.

Yeah, that last battle is very entertaining. Saw it again (5th time! Can't help gloating :D ) and also just, once again, LOVED the duel. Very true to the book and a brilliant idea in both media. It is also so relieving and inspiring to see the old Magnificent back. Kudos to Will in pulling off such a physical and intense sequence.

Peter, Susan and Edmund were all amazing in battle. You could see they were kings and queens, experienced with past wars, vs. the London kids who had weapons handed to them in LWW.

I liked Edmund's role. Very calm, solid, steadfast, and helpful.

Yeah, he really embodied his title of The Just. He was kingly, kind, considered, and supportive throughout. He's definitely ready to be the only Pevensie king in the next movie! (Although I shall miss Peter so much :( )

And the goodbye was pretty emotional in its feel, all things considered (even the you-know-what, in my opinion).

*giggles* See, I'm against the you-know-what but for like a totally different reason than most Narnia fans. I'm just really conservative that way. If there's going to be an onscreen kiss between good people then I prefer that they are a) married or b) going to get married.

Anyway, I liked how Caspian turned that romantic moment into one of affection with a hug. Very sweet and wiped the frown off my face. :D I also love Lucy and Edmund's reaction to it. LOL

But yes, every single time that ending is emotional.

I liked:
Reepicheep..so cute and amazing.

the little boy centaur holding the sword..awww...

the beginning, with the planets, and Caspian fleeing the castle..very well done, imo.

Edmund and Lucy's roles.

the night raid.

tons of other things.:D

^I loved the young centaurs! With daddy centaur helping him. :p

That scene made me cry. With the whole entrance, plus music, plus ancient drawings, plus Aslan's 'temple.' It made me yearn for 'Old Narnia' and that both Lewis and the movie had shown more of their time as kings and queens. I really wish he had written more about those 15-30 years in great detail! *wishes* *cries*

Oh I loved Edmund....everything Edmund. Edmund's smile...his quirky lines...his awesome swordsman skills, his flashlight capabilities...wonderful! :D

Oh, yes! *sighs deeply* I don't mean to offend anyone who loved "The Horse and His Boy" but for me the highlight was meeting the Pevensies as kings and queens and yet it was a bitter disappointment because they are barely in there. :( I can't help evilly wishing that if HHB is made into a film, that the producers increase the role of the Pevensies in it (like what they've done in PC).

On the other hand, I suppose the fact that we only witness the Golden Era through the periphary and secondhand POV, is what gives it that indescribable aura of perfection. Look too closely and a lot of grandeur becomes common and dull. *conflicted*

On point, that was something in the book that I thought translated beautifully into the movie: the Pevensie children's longing and nostalgia for their golden Narnian past. :) One of my favorite scenes ever is when they are wandering the ruins and Lucy anxiously arranges them into place and Peter realizes "Cair Paravel".

*giggles* Well, based upon reading fan forums, I must say your sentiments appear to be the majority opinion. :D I thought he was entirely above reproach myself -although you'd be hard pressed to make me reproach any Pevensie in the film.

Thank you. I never really hated the movie. I don't think I could hate anything. I don't like hate in my heart. I really liked a lot of the part in the movie. And they did get many scenes and characters right.
I am very impressed with you and Lady of the Lion's Mane for demonstrating great character by understanding our disappointments.

Yes, it is sad that some members had to leave. I remember when I first came to this forum I read posts from some members saying they were leaving because they did not feel welcome anymore. I hope they do come back someday.
I also want to thank Fifth Pevensie for this great way of putting the thread. It is uniting us, even with our differences of opinons, and I think that's great.
I think that we must always remember that each of us will disagree about many things, mainly because we are all unique and not expected to all like the same things. But I hope that we always remember the reason that unites us: WE LOVE NARNIA! And even if others think we are crazy, we want to believe that someday, somehow, after this lifetime, we are all going to find ourselves in the real Aslan's Country!
