What's With The Fly?

Lava, you do have a point when you said that it may have been a tour room. The door was never locked so it was used, if rarely. As for the dust cover, they would have to washed that a lot for it not to accumulate any dust. Even after a week, that should have had somethinjg on it.

And I know that in the book, there was nothing covering the wardrobe. In fact, it was just a plain wardrobe with no special designs on it. Just curious since I am not too knowledgeable about wardrobes, in the book it states that it was the kind of wardrobe that had "a looking-glass in the door." But dies that mean it was on the inside of the door or the outside? It was neither in the movie.

I have the lab report on the fly and I'll share it with you.

There were no outward signs of blunt force trauma. It appears he died of nutritional deprivation, so the death is listed as natural causes.

As he was carrying no identification, a photograph has been posted at the city dump with a number to call for tips. A couple of leads suggest he might be Buzzy McFly who mysteriously vanished two weeks ago.

Generally that would be inside of the door so one could look at one's self as you were digging through the wardrobe to find something to wear.

Wonderful report there my friend! Poor little blue-bottle fly.

As for the wardrobe, the looking glass was on the outside. If you look at the wardrobe that Lewis has which is usually housed at Wheaton College (I saw it a week or so ago in the Narnian exhibition at the museum) it has a looking glass in the door and a drawer underneth the main door. It's the shape of the one in the film. The wardrobe in the living room at my house also has a looking glass in the door on the outside. Several wardrobes do. They changed the one in the film around to have carvings in it from the Magician's Nephew and decided against the looking glass. I think it would have made filming a bit harder to make sure the reflection of all the crew and cameras would never be seen in the glass. Andrew had enough trouble filming with kids, animals, and the weather. That's the sort of change I can live with from book to film.

Plus, the carvings were just so fitting, a nice, subtle nod to the fact that MN came first (which COMPLETELY settles the chronology/publication debate for me).

I also liked the dust cover, even though it's not canon. It made a nice visual to see little Lucy pulling if off (and almost on top of herself!).

Andrew had said in the commentary that he wanted to make that scene where she finds the wardrobe more suspenseful and to really draw attention to the wardrobe so he had it covered with the dust cloth. I do agree that it should have had some dust on it though. Ah well, with a production that big, there's bound to be a few things they miss.

B-b-b-ut how could they miss DUST???? XD No really I do see your point, especially with the dust cover and all, but when you decided to pay attention to one small thing, to ZOOM IN on that with the camera, then forget to edit the details on that one scene...well that's just really weird. With so many people working on a single movie, especially all the people who are supposed to take care of this kind of thing...well I think there has to be a reason. Lava is probably right - I can totally see the Macready obsessively cleaning all the window sills...XD wouldn't that be a great deleted scene?

As for the wardrobe I think it makes more sense if the mirror is on the outside, cause then it is much more in use rather than having to open the wardrobe to actually be able to use the mirror. Humanity is lazy :D And vain. We like easily accessible mirrors...

Dust is very important, you know. It's one of the most important components of dust bunnies, and who wants to see dust bunnies go extinct?

hmm yeah, but I didn't like that she had to pull off the sheet. Dont get me wrong it was great the way they shot it, but still I think it would have been better if it had just been there.
