Itttttt's SUMMERTIME!!!!!!! :D

Okay, okay, maybe not officially summer for everyone, but we're getting close. And, as I'm sure most of us know, the beginning of this time of year means summer blockbusters will be coming out. So, I was thinking we could create this thread and discuss all of the summer blockbusters here since I know we all love to discuss movies. Oh, and admins, feel free to move this around if necessary.

Films Coming Up (As of this past week) by Month (Also, feel free to add to the list in a post and, if I'm around, I'll update it.)

May: Iron Man 2; Babies; Robin Hood; Letters to Juliet; Just Wright; Shrek Forever After; Macgruber; Prince of Persia: Sands of Time; S*x and the City 2; Survival of the Dead

June: Killers; Marmaduke; The A-Team; The Karate Kid; Toy Story 3; Jonah Hex; I Am Love (this film is limited release, but it has Tilda Swinton in it ;) ); Grown Ups; Knight and Day

To start everything off:

Last night, I went with my brother to see Iron Man 2. It's an okay movie. It is perhaps a little cleaner in some regards than the first one, but I would still say standard PG-13 concerns apply. I definitely enjoyed the film, but it had some weak points. Fans of the comics will probably enjoy it despite it's slightly non-canon approach to the story, but let's just say that the Avengers story line appears to be moving along nicely.

As for films I would definitely like to see, after Iron Man 2 there's Robin Hood and Toy Story 3. Other films I would be interested in seeing would be The A-Team, Jonah Hex, The Last Airbender, maybe Predators, Cats & Dogs, The Expendables, and Centurion.

Out of those films, Airbender and C&D would be the only potentially clean films worth seeing, but I would hope that the A-Team would be a good film. The only reason I have Predators down is because of the continuation/reboot of the old series, although i know it'll probably be very violent. As for Jonah Hex, eh...I have some concerns, but the fact that it's DC Comics intrigues me. The Expendables looks to be a smaller scale blockbluster only because of the action-packed cast alone that also has Ahnold making his return to movies. Centurion, I placed on the list because it is purported to be a grittier version of the Roman-era genre, plus I like history. :D Its limited release will probably make me wait until it comes out on DVD for that one.

Didn't Mr. T turn down a cameo role in the A-Team movie because there was something wrong with it? Like something bad...

I'm not sure. Wikipedia only says that Mr. T was offered a cameo role, but turned it down. Whatever the reason is, I don't know. It could be the fact that they destroy the van. :p
 
Except for The Last Airbender, I don't see myself rushing to spend my money on anything else. Hollywood doesn't get a hold of my wallet that easily. No sir, ma'am.

Ditto. The first two Toy Story movies were great. I think Toy Story 2 was a bit better, though.

Our family doesn't usually see movies in the theater much. (Last thing I saw in the theaters was Spidey 3.) If my dad hears it's a really good one, he borrows it on DVD from his friend at work, who owns every DVD ever made.

Haha!!! I TOTALLY know what you are talking about!!! I'm a diehard fan of the show, and I know how frustrating it is that we have to keep calling it TLA instead of A:TLA as so not to get confused with "AVATAR."

(And no, they didn't LEGALLY change the name, the director[M. Night Shyamalan] just did it to avoid confusion.)

Anyways, movies that I'm excited for to come out:
THE LAST AIRBENDER!!!!!! (You have NOOOOO idea how excited I am for this movie!!!! :D)
Twilight: Eclipse (although I'll probably see the weekend after it gets out to avoid competition with TLA. ;) )
Step Up 3D: Only because my family and I got to see them film it last summer.

I want to see that movie so badly, I'm hoping it's not just because of the way the TV spots have been cut, lol. I'm probably going to have to wait until it comes to the local drive-in theater, though, where it's a bit cheaper.
 
Movies I want to see this summer:
Robin Hood
toy story
prince of Prisa
but is will NOT see the new Twilght. NEVER, EVER!!!!
 
I've seen two major movies this summer: Iron Man 2 and Robin Hood. Neither where noteworthy, however I hold out hope that there shall be at least one gem this summer. :)
 
I saw Prince of Persia because my husband was willing to go to the movies, and that was his choice -- It was right entertaining but got too long after a while. The same things kept happening over and over, like long chases, and short captivities. I think the story was probably pretty good, but somehow, it just didn't deliver for the time it took. I liked the prince's uncle though, who was that, Ben Kingsley? Anyway, it was ok fare for a summer day with nothing better to do, but I wouldn't rush to see it.

I am now thinking about Last Airbender because I saw the preview, and it looked good, and M Night Shymalan, so, maybe I'll get to see that one yet this summer.

It seemed like every other preview was for something in 3D. I kind of hate that! I have always been a huge fan of 3D but back in the day it was rare. Now everything is going 3D, and that takes away the charm. :(

The only other movie that looked worthwhile, from the previews, was A-Team, and that's one my husband would consider going to as well, so I have high hopes there. It was such a silly TV show, I will be interested to see what they do in the film; it looked more dramatic for sure.
