The Avengers (2012)

I thought the actor who played Loki was brilliant as being a bad guy. His portrayal wasn't one that I walked away from the film being disappointed at. There were other actors/actresses who were portraying baddies and didn't do a good job. One actress that I can think of now is Imelda Staunton as Umbridge in Harry Potter. She wasn't just as evil or sinister as she came out in the book to me.

This is just awesome. You guys will get a kick outa this one.

Star Pulse Magazine recently had a quick sit-down interview with the golden director himself, Mr. Joss Whedon over the weekend where he shed some light on the current state of Marvel Studio’s right now & what could be Avengers #2!

I totally agree. I thought everyone did a good job, but Tom Hiddleston had a very tough job that he pulled off beautifully. He brought the role right to the edge of campy but didn't take it over. A beautiful touch: that vision sequence at the start where he morphs from a site on earth (the SHEILD lab, I think) to this barren somewhere-spot where The Other dresses him down. That makes clear that Loki himself is under serious threat, and better deliver or he's in bad trouble. I thought he brought out that dynamic very well.

I read a tweet today that one fan has seen it a whopping 11 times since it released. Talk about excessive!

If I don't see Crooked Arrows in June (i.e. if it doesn't get released in my area), I'll be going to see Avengers again, most likely.

HAHAA that's crazy! I understand why though :p..

Yah I plan to again also! Did you know it hit the billion dollar mark already in box office?

Yep, I've been keeping up with how much it's making...just out of curiosity. It nearly beat Avatar (Avatar holds the record for reaching $1 billion the quickest) but lost by 2 days. One person on PluggedIn said, "Something is fishy when a movie does so well and everybody who's seen it comes out singing its praises. Something's wrong here!" To which I replied, "So, a movie has to have faults in order to be credible? Even with its non-stop violence/action, Avengers is a much more decent film than the trash turned out lately by Hollywood." Someone else also commented, "I think people are tired of the trash. So when a film like this that the whole family can enjoy and watch together comes out, they will flock to it multiple times. It's so rare that a film like this comes out, people support it because it's a rare occurrence."

We won't even mention all the geeks out there who have been waiting for this movie for what, 10 years, at the least? I dunno how long the Avengers comics have been out, but the fans of the comics have long awaited this film.

There have been Avengers comicbooks for more than forty years. The leading characters all go a LONG way back with the Marvel Corporation.

Right. Captain America, for example has been around since 1941. And in fact many of these movies have been in development since the 1980s, following the release and success of the first Christopher Reeve Superman. It just took a while for special effects technology to catch up to do some of them justice.

That, . . and it took a while for Marvel to get it's stuff together. Probally looking back, it was a good thing that Marvel did'nt make some of those films and give away the rights to other studios them back then.

They probally could have done a Cap movie back then if they wanted. For heavens sake, they did Superman & Star Wars.

They did. Captain America, and Captain America: Death II Soon. But the less that is said about them, the better. Lets just say they've found a very nice home in the bargain bins of stores, and as bootlegs at comic book conventions. ( where fans don't even want to buy them.)

Indeed. Take a look at the * ahem sparkly teen Vampire romance movies that shall remain nameless ahem* Sure, they may have huge opening weekends, but you don't have numbers like this as it appeals to one demographic, teen girls, fans and thier moms ( and boys they drag with them). Avengers has a much wider range. For example, one of my cousins wants to see it because she loves superheroes, another wants to see it for Iron Man, and another wants to see it for Thor & Loki. Even my grandma knows who Captain America and Thor are.

Oh . . .yes, Indeed. Don't forget the old Captain America T.V. movies in the late 70's and 80's. Heehee. I remember those when I was a kid.

Last night, I dreamed that I was attending some kind of military-strategy meeting at which the Avengers were present. Also present was the captain of the U.S. Navy submarine on which I served.
