OMG!!! I am just the same!! I love GB more than ER!!! I am also a S2!! HEHE!!

I agree. I used to sing Phantom of the Opera and had to open my mouth so much more. I thought when I first seen it she was lipsinging.

anyone see that girl on last year's american idol who tried out with a POTO song? i thought that was so cool.

I've seen the Broadway tour of the play in LA , the movie was nowhere near the intensity of the play, acting wise. But the movie was well, good enough... it's just that I saw the play first and it was awesome.

The film pales in comparison to the production at Her Majesty's Theatre in London, on all levels. Gerard Butler is a reasonable actor, but no singer (albeit he tries his best). However, I did enjoy Minnie Driver as Carlotta, and Emmy Rossum was an excellent singer, if not all that impressive on the acting front (though she's not as good as Celia Graham, who was Christine when I last saw the production in London). Miranda Richardson is always great, so I enjoyed her performance, and the same goes for Simon Callow.

My girlfriend is a huge fan of The Phantom of the Opera, having now seen the production four times, and she hated the film. Speaking for myself, I wouldn't go that far, as the singing (except for the Phantom himself) was of a high quality, and the sets were suitably grandiose. However, I preferred the book, and above the book the much adapted Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical, which truly displays the power of theatre (the first descent into the Phantom's lair is one of the greatest moments on stage I've ever seen).

I'd urge anyone who liked the film but hasn't seen Phantom on stage to do so if possible, though it can be rather expensive. ;)

oh, the stage performance is truly amazing. its so much creepier (wrong word but can't think of the right one) when the possibility of a real phantom is much more likely in the rafters. the original cast is the best though. michael crawford has a gorgeous voice.

It is a real shame they haven't released an original cast DVD as opposed to just the CD (which incidentally I'm listening to now :) ). I get the impression footage might be available, as there are excerpts of a performance featuring Sarah Brightman on the Phantom of the Opera DVD (though that may have been the Sydmonton version from 1985).

Still, the one I went to see recently with Celia Graham as Christine was sufficiently excellent to get no complaints about it from my girlfriend, which wasn't the case last time we went! ;)

no, i knkow what you mean about being creepy! i went when i was little (like 6) and was very scared and creeped out. but then again, i was 6...:)

I LOVE POTO!!!! I must say I hated Raoul! He sang good and was a good actor, but as a character I hated him. She should have picked Erik instead because he is cooler and so much better. He deserves a lot of pity for his childhood and I love the Point of No Return. It's just so romantic and everything...I love this entire movie! Also, if anyone else agrees with me on the whole Erik thing, I've discovered if you stop the movie after him and Christine kiss it's much better, but that's just me.

I. So. Agree.
:D
But I found the Phantom a bit intimidating so, if we're talking in like real world standards here, I'd just wait for another man and not take Raoul or the Phantom.

I loved Phantom of the opera!!! But I like it better when Sara Brightman sang it. Emmy Rossum is beautiful and has a great voice, but nothing can compare to Sara Brightman. And Micheal Crawford! Gerard Butler doesn't look that old o.O He's actually pretty young O.o I watched the old Phantom of the opera (still colored) It's pretty good! But the recent PotO is the BOMB!!

Oh i know, i love the latest movie of POTO. It's such a beautiful film.

hantom of the opera? Great! I just don't know how Andrew Loyd Weber does it... I mean ...every musical he makes, is a great succes. And my favorite is Jesus Christ Superstar. Although i loved Pahntom of the opera as well. Actors are great, music, screenplay, production, special effects...everything :D

I have the Andrew Lloyd Webber Albert Concert Hall Celebration DVD, its of the production they put on for his 50th birthday, and you CAN NOT WATCH IT without thinking, "this man is a GENIUS!!!!"
and his brother is an AMAZING cellist as well! i have HIS CD too, called Lloyd Webber Plays Lloyd Webber, where Julian plays different pieces from Andrew's works, and that is what got my hooked on ALW, because my aunt let me borrow her CATS VHS, and i LOOOOVED it, and then that summer i bought that CD, because it had Memory on it, (this was in 2004, after the POTO movie came out), and i fell in love with the other songs, especially All I Ask Of You. a few weeks later i borrowed the original POTO soundtrack from the library, fell head over heals for it, and in july got the movie soundtrack for my birthday. in august, the movie was on DirecTV pay per view, and we taped it and i LOVED IT. the rest is history. :D

Hey, I'm in the Phantom of the Opera fan club, too! I saw it when it came out as an 8th-grade class field trip in Arts and Humanities class and then we were tested over it. It was quite fun. :)
I loved it the moment I saw it and my mom and I love to listen to the soundtrack as we drive along in the car so we don't get bored. :D
