In the story I mentioned to you, I made the hero a Filipino because I have had Filipino friends in real life.

From the Philippines? If you look in Professor's Writing Club, you will find a thread for a story in which the main character is a Filipino adopted by Americans! The story is called "The First Love of Alipang Havens."
