I had a double Thanksgiving. My own family found it convenient to dine "officially" on Wednesday--in part, so that my sisters Randi and Tammy would be free on Thursday to eat with the families of their husbands. I, likewise, was thus free to eat on Thursday at the home of Jan's youngest daughter, Natalie. Meanwhile, my Dad was beginning to regain a little mobility. Even if only with a walker, his being able to walk even a little bit will make everything SO much easier for Mom.

Pot stickers are a sort of small, football-shaped dumplings, filled with any vegetable or meat one may choose. Typically one dips them in a marinade.

Korean braised beef with steamed rice; fried shrimp; a salad; pot stickers; and a pickled vegetable mix.

Har de har har. The wedding ceremony will be rehearsed, and then the participants will eat.

For many years, as a thin pretense of allowing religious freedom, the Communist regime in Beijing has permitted what it calls "The Three-Self Patriotic Movement." Notice that it isn't even _called_ a church, but a "patriotic movement," showing that it demands loyalty to government _above_ God.

The term "Three-Self" means that this puppet church is "self-governing, self-supporting and self-propagating." What that _really_ means is that the puppet congregations cannot accept any form of help from outside China. The rulers are determined to let _nothing_ compete with them for the rigid obedience of the people. And you can be sure that NO sermon is EVER preached from a Three-Self pulpit that criticizes the Communist government in even the slightest degree.

The resistance, then, consists of the _unregistered_ churches in China: churches where the people actually believe that _God,_ not Beijing, has ultimate authority. These churches are persecuted, and their pastors are sometimes murdered.
