THE VISITATION, by Frank Peretti

If Stephen King knew THE King, Stephen King would be Frank Peretti.

Peretti imagines great evil, but he DOESN'T keep God hogtied and gagged.

Peretti doesn't gloat over people being as helpless as earthworms on pavement.

The point in his fiction is always WHICH SIDE each character will choose.

Travis Jordan, the protagonist, is a small-town Christian who faltered in faith.

His town sees false miracles, contrived by Satan to fool everyone.

These herald the coming of a cult leader, an Antichrist wanna-be.

The con-man flatters the townspeople. and enables their narcissism.

Fake spirituality leads hundreds of people into sick and ridiculous behavior.

But Travis and his faithful friends refuse to be deceived.
