He froze for a second, listening with every muscle in his body.He could hardly hear his mother call him anymore. He knew she wanted him back inside the cave, but it wasn't important for him right now.
There it was again. The sound. The sound of branches breaking as something big stepped on them, something that was not supposed to be there. He tried to see what it was,but the big, dark trees stopped his attempt from being succesful. An icy wind blew through his fur, made him shudder.Something was exremely wrong,he just knew it.He had known it since the day Aslan left.
"Come on now, honey" His mother called again,"There's nothing to worry about. We're not the only living creatures in these woods, after all.I bet someone is just outside for a little walk."
He was just about to turn around when something did catch his attention. There, right in the moonlight, was a tall shadow, running away through the woods.

Chapter one (it's short)

Chapter one

"Sirius is ALWAYS making things up..."
He had heard these words at least one million times before, but they had never been bothering him like now.He usually tried to point out that he never had made something up in his entire life, but this time he kept his mouth shut, pretending to find the bug on the ground extremely interesting.
"Seriuosly! You didn't hear or see anything in the woods last night. You were only trying to get attention." His sister Ruby continued.Sirius looked up from the bug, shaking with anger. He was so tired of her way to look down on him like that, especially when she did it in front of all their friends.
"You don't know anything about that." He said coldly.Ruby stared at him.
"Well I don't believe you." She said,adding a little laughter,"A tall shadow...?Who would that be?Aslan himself?"
"Aslan has left." Sirius mumbled. He walked away from the little group of animals before Ruby said anything more, and took a deep breath to calm himself down.He couldn't stop thinking about the shadow,no matter how hard he tried.None of the animals or creatures he knew had such a shadow, not even the Fauns or the Centaurs. And why had it been running, obviously trying to avoid him?
He kept walking without knowing where.Maybe Ruby was right, maybe he was just over-reacting.And the feeling, the feeling of something being wrong...could he trust himself good enough to believe in that? He was only a young fox after all.How much did he know about feelings..? Did he know anything at all?

He looked around, between the huge trees surrounding him, almost expecting to see the tall, thin shadow once again, but he didn't see anything this time.He was all alone, wandering around towards the lake, with a heavy heart and a head full of thoughts of different kinds.

I'll make the next chapter a little longer...I just need to figure out what's going to happen....*thinks*

Here's a thought

There were humans in the Narnian world before Jadis came to power; and she COULD NOT have ever succeeded in exterminating them all at any time in her reign, or there could not have been viable human populations in Narnia, Archenland and Calormen (plus whatever other never-detailed-by-Lewis countries there were) at the time of "The Horse And His Boy." So some humans must have escaped from Jadis and found refuge in places too far off for her to track them down. Depending on just where in the timeline you are placing your story, perhaps your fox character could play a role in helping Narnian humans to get away.

Yeah,you're right...I'll think about that!

Chapter two (sorry for not updating sooner)

Chapter two
He carried on walking, without knowing where,as he tried to clear his brain from all thoughts. He hardly noticed the sky changing color from blue to blood red,he hardly heard or felt the icy winds blowing through the trees surrounding him.He just knew he had had enough, knew that Ruby and the others would not miss him,and neither would he miss them.Maybe he could find friends to stay with in another part of the Western Woods, real friends who didn't make fun of him. That might be possible. He knew very little about the other parts of the Woods,or any other part of Narnia in which he had never been, but he was sure that there had to be new friends waiting for him there.

The darkness came by quickly, but he still did not stop walking. His paws did hurt more than he could remember they ever had done before, and he was starting to feel tired. How long had he been walking now?Hours for sure, but how many? Had anyone even noticed he was gone?
Ruby hadn't,he knew that very well. She was way too busy with playing with the other animals, the fauns and the dryads for taking care of her younger brother, who she recently had been calling a liar.
But Sirius suddenly thought about something, something that he hadn't realized until now,and now whe he did,it was so painfully obvious that he just wanted to cry.
His mother. His loving, carring mother who had raised him to be whatever he was. What about her?She must be awfully worried by now.She had always told him to not wander around in the dark woods alone, and what was he doing now?He stopped walking, and his loud steps on the stony ground left nothing but silence.he had to go home now.Even though he would hardly admit it,he loved and adored his mother and he knew that she would always be there for him, whenever he needed her.
He turned around slowly, and was just about to begin the long walk home, when he took a closer look on the woods surrounding him.The trees were thicker than ever, and he could hardly see them because of the darkness. The air he was breathing felt cold and made him shudder really badly. He was all alone in a part of the woods he didn't know at all,he was tired, and above all,he wouldn't be able to find his way back home again.
Sirius felt how something heavy fell down into his stomach with a terrible speed. He was trapped. He had been so busy with thinking that he didn't know which way he had taken.Finding the right way home would therefore be totally impossible at this point. His heart was beating faster. What was he going to do now?
"Um..hello?" He called in a shaking voice,"Is anybody here..?Can you please help me?I'm....lost.."
He listened anxiously, hoping so badly that someone would answer him,but the dark wood stayed quiet and peaceful in the moonlight. He swallowed the tears burning in his throat and opened his mouth again.
"Please..." He cried,"Please help me!I want to go home!P-please..?"
For a second,he thought that no one would answer him,but suddenly he heard a loud, cracking sound somewhere in front of him.He froze immediately, without knowing what to do or if he dared to do anything at all.It was exactly the same sound he had heard outside his cave the other night and once again,he cathed a glimpse of a tall shadow, followed by a tall body, which was glowing in the darkness.
At the first sight, she looked like one of the humans Sirius had seen once, but he didn't really think she was human at all.She was tall and thin, with skin as white as the moon shining above them, and eyes that looked right through him.Her hair was dark blonde, and she was holing a lond, weird stick in her right hand.
"You are a fox." The creature said. Her voice sounded clear and a little cold, without any sign of carring or warmth.
"Yes,I am..I am S-Sirius." Sirius stammered,"But..who are you?"
"Is that how you speak to a Queen, fox?" She asked sternly.Sirius started to feel really confused.Queen...?
"I..I beg your pardon,your majesty,I didn't know.."
"Never mind!" The Queen exclaimed,"Just make sure that you remember it,fox. Then I'll let you go and not kill you."
"Kill...kill me?" Sirius asked, trying not to show how afraid he was.The Queen smiled,a cruel smile that made Sirius shudder a little, but he didn't show that either.
"Kill you, fox." The Queen said simply,"But that would not be necessary if you call me your Queen. You see,I am Jadis,Queen of Narnia." She added in a cold voice.Sirius nodded quickly.
"Of course,Queen Jadis." He began, working really hard to keep his voice calm,"But please...your majesty...couldn't you help me to find my way back home?I was taking a walk and got lost here in these woods.."
Queen Jadis stared at him a few seconds, without saying a single word.Sirius couldn't tell what she was thinking just by looking at her face, but she seemed to consider something. Then she opened her mouth again.
"Fox,have you seen the Sons of Adam and Daughters Of Eve anywhere in the Western Woods?"She asked.Sirius shook his head.
"The humans?No,your majesty."
"They are here somewhere, fox." Jadis said coldly,"And you will help me to find them."
"But...my Queen..I need to go home,my mother is really worried about me." Sirius said carefully.Jadis stared at him.
"Fox,you will help me.Or else,I will kill both you and your mother, and the rest of your family as well."
There was nothing else to do.Sirius realized he simply had to help Jadis, whether he wanted it or not..
