Anyone Plan On Dressing Up?

I could only get away with it, if they thought it was just a toy. Which I've had people do when they see me holding a real sword. :D
 
Hmmm. Maybe I should get a job at a theater. You get free popcorn.
But back on to the topic, It would be really difficult to find a costume that would fit, mainly because narnia is set in a sort of middle ages period but it has a sort of narnian twist on it.
Which is kind of obvious I guess.
 
Yeah, any costume I've ever tried on like the 50 or so dreses I had for this medieval costume party were to short or to long so I had to order one from the internet and it smelt all funny when it came. It smelt a bit like bannanas come to think of it.
 
They do sell mail shirts in that same website but they are pretty expensive. I don't have that much money ($250-$900). You also have to buy the mail head cover... ing... thingy.
 
Well if you don't have the oney I wouldn't go through with it. But if your passionate about dressing up, prehapes you should look somewhere else were you can find chain mail cheaper.
 
Just judging from the one site I found (I imagine that the overall prices might not vary too much) here is what you would be looking at for Narnia Cosplay (depending on how committed you are to dressing up):

Tunic: $60.00

Mail Shirt: $200-250 (and higher depending on quality)

Mail Coif (the head thing :) ): $64

Leather Boots: $120-$160 depending on preference

Tunic Shirt: $65

Cotton Pants: $35

Peter's Sword Replica: $220 (from link on this site)

Sword Belt: $48

Mail Gloves: $65


So it can get pretty expensive to actually go for the full "role-play" effect, but it would be worth it to see how other people react when they see you!
 
Be careful: even if your weapons are VERY obviously harmless props, there are some communities where the cops are wildly paranoid about anyone who even LOOKS like he or she has a weapon.
 
My son who designs and makes costumes and boots for fantasy/scifi films is making me a costume but it won't be ready until the convention. So dressing up for the movie won't happen - at least on opening day.
 
You could go with something different Barbarian King. I know Peter goes about in his leather jerkin outfit in battles as well which might be cheaper than armor and easier to find. Dealers in Renaissance clothing would have stuff for that. It still wouldn't be cheap, but it might work. Are you trying to get a costume for LionCon as well? Keep in mind that Biola does not allow weapons on campus and all swords must be left in the car if brought. They allow flimsy plastic or foam...but that's it.
 
Hey, a foam sword is cool. They sell those (or used to) at the lego store. They used to have bins full of foam swords, the straight Narnian type and the Calormene looking scimitars, although the last time I was there they had the swords behind the counter because there were constant swordfights all over the aisles, and not just the kids either. Even *caughs* grown-ups got caught in the excitment. I'll go check it out.

Anyway, right now I am just exploring possibilites so thanks for the tips ITW!
