Artemis Fowl

I've never even heard of "Artemis Fowl." Actually, now that I think about it, I love fantasy but haven't really gone out "looking" for fantasy novels to read. I read "The Hobbit" and "LotR" and loved those of course, then finally read "Narnia," which has a style that clicked with me more. But beyond those, I just don't know any other fantasy novels. (I'm so deprived I'm sure) I do know a bit about different mythology, but that's ancient stuff.

So "Artemis Fowl" is a recommendation? What are some other good books that a fantasy-craving reader (such as myself) should dive into?

The Abhorsen and Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix. Also he does this really good scifi book, Shade's Children. I say that I'm a fantasy fanatic but I find that I really am not that broad in my scope of fantasy literature. I mean, I only read stuff by about 3 main authors. J.R.R. Tolkien, Garth Nix and Lloyd Alexander. And of course I've read the Narnia books. A Wizard of Earthsea is also pretty good, what I read of it that is.

There'd better be another Artemis Fowl book. I love them they are great for a quick easy but very satisfying read, and the characters are amazing, i want to find out what happens to them all, he left it so open at the end of book 3

Well he didn't leave it open as much as he left an opening so he could write another book if he had time/felt the need.

Hello. I am a big fan of these books, and here's a thread dedicated to them.
Anything Artemis Fowl is allowed to be dicussed. It would also be interesting to hear how any of you see it from a Christian point of view.

I tried to read Artemis fowl( i forget which one) but it was about fairies, a centaur or soemthing i thought it was quite silly. (Sorry to artemis fowl fans) and i never could get through it

Hmm, people that i respect their taste in reading have said they liked these books. Some even said it may be better than harry potter. Interesting though that we have mixed opinions here.

Maybe its one of them books you have to read the whole stupid thing to like it. Like with an anime i've seen Noir, i hated it, but everyone says it gets better as it goes on, now thats just dumb to me, it should be good, then gets better from there.

Artemis Fowl is pretty good. I finished Opal Deception several days after it came out, and regrettably, the series seems to be getting worse. The first book was wonderfully creative and the next two were good, but I think Eoin Colfer gradually lost it. Has anyone read the Supernaturalists? same author! It is really, really good! Much better than the already good Artemis Fowl!

Agreed. The first two books are good, then the downward quality spiral begins. If it's boy-spy-wunderkind stuff you're after - Have you read the Alex Rider books? Written by Anthony Horowitz. Kind of junior James Bond. A good escapist read.
