Aslan's appearances

St. Eustace and other things

Thanks SOA for the interesting insights! I especially like the story of St. Eustace. I wonder, too, if this isn't why mr. Lewis chose the name Eustace for the boy in VDT.

My favorite appearence of Aslan in VDT is the one in the magician's house.

I like the Aslanophany in which He changes Rabadash into a donkey.

Concerning the White Stag: okay, I guess I'll permit him not to be Aslan. But--have any of you heard of Catherine Marshall, widow of the great Presbyterian minister Peter Marshall? Her mother is the title character of the book "CHRISTIE," a semi-fictionalized account of how this Christie served as a missionary schoolteacher in Appalachia. There were some TV movies made about Christie, with Tyne Daly as one of the important supporting characters; and the reason I'm telling you all this is that, in one episode, a big deal was made about the mountain dwellers seeing A WHITE STAG, conceived vaguely as a sign of blessing.

If you look back along this thread, you'll see that others have thought the same thing. I don't think that Mr. Lewis meant the White Stag to be Aslan, but I still like to think that it was He.

Good thought.

Hmm..I would think that the Stag would just be a guide for the children. Leading them back to their home. If it was Aslan himself, maybe he would have appeared to the Kings and Queens one last time before he sent them back through the Wardrobe.
