Aslan's transformation (possible spoilers)

we know that at the very end of the last battle, Aslan somehow transformed into human form
" and as He spoke, He no longer looked to them like a lion, but the things that begun after that were so great and beautiful that i cannot write them..."
-the last battle, p. 210, farewell to shadowlands

so when the moviemakers will make this part, which style do you prefer? showing Aslan's transformation while he spoke, or just hint that he is now human, or never show it at all, but change his voice?

discuss...:)

I have a feeling that The Last Battle, were it made, would end the way the film Prince Caspian began...leaving out stuff, but not denying that it happened. Prince Caspian began with the Prince running away...there was no build up. The Last Battle, I would imagine, would end in a montage of ethereal and beautiful images of bliss, but probably carefully chosen to avoid outwardly saying, "Hey Jews, you wuz WRONG! Aslan is Jesus P. Christ, lately of Galilee, and not the Mormon one neither!" I would imagine that Aslan would be shown to be a supreme being, but I would also imagine people would be allowed to imagine, each in their own faith, that he was the Buddha, Allah, Yahweh, Christ, or Gaia.

I think it's hard to say what Lewis had in mind when he wrote that, because he knew that it would be impossible for anyone in this world to know what Jesus would look like in His true country? If He looked like a man in our world and like a lion in Narnia, how will He look when we see Him as He is?

We would see him, not his appearance. The real Aslan is what he thinks, feels, and wills. That's why when his mane was shorn off there wasn't any less of him.

Oh wow. This is interesting. I guess I have actually been wondering what was meant by that, about Aslan, I mean. But I agree. I think he didn't 'turn into a man,' as it were, but rather became fully Himself. Whatever that means. We humans who have yet to die and become fully ourselves could 1) Never imagine it in our wildest dreams and 2) Not live to tell the tale if we did see it or something.

I guess they could end with the camera going 'up and away' over New (True) Narnia and everyone there, while Aslan, after he roars of course, :D becomes this Blinding Light as the camera leaves the scene. Music swells. We all cry our eyes out.

I hope, though, that they include more of the Trees and Dryads/Naiads, River/Wood gods, etc that were so prominent in PC but hardly mentioned in LB, in True Narnia. :( I love those. They are a part of Narnia, too, and so deserve to be shown.

And something should be said/hinted at to indicate Lewis indeed thought Susan would return one day. Perhaps the "Once a King or Queen" line or something. Something!

Fact is his transformation was ambiguous. Lewis never flat out said ," And he looked exactly like what they pictured Jesus to look like" ( I eman woudln't it look a little silly if durring his transformation they suddenly had him look like Jim Caviezel from passion of the Christ?)

The transformation coudl be handled like this: Peter, Edmund and Lucy look at Aslan. There faces are flooded with light as Aslan's transformation begins, looks of awe and wonder appear on their faces, fade to black, run credits and then durring the credits as a breif thing for Susan...

After the funeral fo her family she is seen walking through a room, dressed all in balck, drying her tears. In this room is the wardrobe from the professor's hosue, she cracks open the door and whispers something. ( we can't hear it, it's her words to Aslan.) then she turns and walks away. Then Aslan's voice says ," Once a king or queen" line.

Ooh...that's kinda cool sounding. ^^ Especially the Susan thing. I wonder how we could tell the producers/director about this? Granted, we don't even know if LB will be made, yet. *hopes* Once we know they will, we need to tell them that! Haha. Seriously! :p

I think that Aslan absolutely must be portrayed as light, or as awe on the kid's faces - if they actually turn him into a man a lot of people (including me) would be disappointed. How do you describe God? So many people with so many different opinions out there - I doubt the producer would risk something like that. I'm sure they will find a way to compromise. I'm thinking some sort of magical dust will surround him, and a narrator will read out what Lewis wrote, or perhaps the camera turns away from Aslan just as he is about to transform, and gives us a look at all the bowing people.

As for Susan, there are probably a few options as well. Perhaps the filmakers will make another outrageous twist, and allow Anna to come back in LB. Or maybe they'll be talking about her, and Aslan tells them there is still hope, or maybe she'll even die as they are talking about her! Or maybe it will fast-forward a few years...In conclusion I'm pretty certain they will bring her back.

I'm also pretty certain they will make the Last Battle into a film - after all the seem to be making all the movies that involve the Pevensies!

If Aslan turned into Liam Nielsen, at least you wouldn't have to dub in his dialog... :p

Hehehe!:D And hey it could work.. sorta. I mean when LN played Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars he did have the sterotypical look fo Jesus ( long hair and beard.) Just ahve him grow ab eard and put him in another wig! :D

But in all seriousness folks, all the suggestions I'm seeing are great. I think we all can agree the more "ambigous" they leave His transformation the better. HE just better not be made to look like the "Buddy-JEsus" figures.

*Laughs* I wouldn't mind if Aslan turned into Liam Nielsen. They'd have to change a few things if they made him use a Light Saber though... :D

Hmm, let's see...Who could play G*D?

Morgan Freeman has played him twice. Why not have fun with Leslie Nielson? Get symbolic with Douglas Gresham. Or even get CG people to superimpose a picture of CS Lewis into the scene. Or maybe I could sneak onto the set... ;)

Seriously, I like the idea of Aslan turning into a brighter and brighter light until it fills the whole screen, ending the movie.

Alright! Now that we have all agreed, we just need to send it in to Apted!!!!! Does anyone know how to do that? Do we have anyone telepathic in the audience? *channel channel*

I do have another idea, just to input something other than the light idea. How bout Aslan turns into a sun?!!! :D No seriously, I think it might be nice if the producers somehow input some sort of flashbacks in that scene. World peace leaders/keepers, pics of Jesus, and perhaps some other religions as well, the Pevensies' parents etc. And THEN He can turn into a big flash of light!

Although the light way seems to be the only way to do it without disrespecting someone, is there any other - more original - way to do it? I just think that the fact that we all thought of this makes it a little...too simple? I'd really like to surprised when I watch LB.

Being simple isn't necessarily a bad thing--I think we'd still be surprised HOW they do it, even if we know (like from a preview) that Aslan will turn into a blinding light or a sun or whatever.

Personally, I don't want to see something that can't be backed up by Lewis. A shining light, a sun, all those ideas are good, NOT because they don't offend (though they don't), but because they don't DISAPPOINT. All Lewis said was that he looked less like a lion. Since he's already golden and his mane already described as looking like light or gold, having him be surrounded and practically disappearing into a blindingly bright light seems fitting. And that is how I'd like to see it end, bright light, then credits. If they fit Susan in, I don't think it should be after the "true end". I like the idea of leaving hope for her, but not so much visually as much as a line or comfort from Aslan. Lewis provides some opportunities in the book for her to appear, like before the Friends of Narnia meet, or in flashback.

You all have some fabulous imaginations! :)

You know how Lewis describes Digory and Polly's last moment with Aslan, where they see nothing but cascading gold. I think they ought to do that in LB too.
