SPOILER ALERT: Please come here only AFTER you have read the book.

I dunno. I think I lost confidence in the author when he asked me to wash my hands carefully but neglected to mention swabbing down the incision sites on the patient with betadyne or alcohol first.

What do YOU think about the book? Have you tried an operation yet? Did it work out as planned? Have you lost anyone on the table yet, and why?

*sob* I lost my first patient! It was terrible! I had done everything right up till then, but then his dog came bursting into the room and ripped out his cerebellum! He gave one convulsed groan and then died. *sob*

I was suspect about the book after reading the ending of the first chapter, where it said:
The prudent budding brain surgeon will minimize risk to his patients by first trying his new skills on himself. That way he can reassure them of their effectiveness, and truthfully tell them: "This won't hurt that much."

What i really like about the book are the helpful

TIPS!

Before you begin brain surgery, insure that the person has a brain. Some avid internet forum members are completely brainless, and so would be poor candidates for surgery.

OK, well in the brain surgery for dummies book -- in the "troubleshooting" section -- it says if you have partial brains we can still do surgery on you. If you want to continue posting on TDL, it would probably be best to go ahead and remove all brains. A brain stem is just as functional for internet forum posting, according to the last chapter.

Problem is I offered to operate on a lawyer. I had his skull laid open and searched and searched with my penlight only to discover his brains were elsewhere. Since everyone in this thread has already read the book, I assume I don't have to tell you where they were.

He had a great deal of trauma to the frontal lobes. That was consistent with witness accounts that he was crossing the street when a motorist saw him at about the last moment. The driver jammed his foot down on the pedal ... and not the brake or clutch mind you ... and though he claimed he was trying to brake, the grin on his face gave him away.

I'm afraid my curiosity gave me no peace, so I read this even though I had not read the book. :o

Do you think it's worth buying? Our library doesn't have it. :D

I'd have to say that sounds EXACTLY like my kind of book.

P.S. On the subject of brains, has anyone heard of an album called Brain Salad Surgery?
