"We believe that the terrorists' aim was to smuggle explosives on to aeroplanes in hand luggage and to detonate these in flight. We also believe that the intended targets were flights from the United Kingdom to the United States of America."

That's what they said.

Yeah, it's kinda scary, but I guess the worst is still to come, but I'll trust in the Lord and as long as we do that, we will live for eternity with him. That makes me feel better. :)

Hey, guys - it's a war, and we're all targets. These guys serve Tash, or Barad Dur, if you prefer that mythological framework. They have no mercy, no morals, and seek only to impose their will on others. To them, it doesn't matter if the target is innocent - in fact, the more innocent, the better, as far as they're concerned.

The quicker you younger ones get accustomed to seeing the fight in those terms, the more equipped you're going to be to face down these monsters. Many of my generation, who still like to wear the rose-colored glasses they first donned in the 1960s, can't grasp that reality. We wander around pretending that this is a simple law enforcement problem, and if we arrest the right people, give them a "fair trial", and sentence them to rehabilitative therapy, then everybody will make nice and we can go back to monitoring our mutual funds.

But our enemies make no bones about what their goal is: they shout it from their minarets and publish it on their websites and broadcast it on their television stations. They intend to complete the job that they think stumbled a millenium ago: the conquest of the world, and the imposition of their will upon all mankind.

Personally, I'd add Orthanc to that list (at least, for those who have only seen the movies--the warg attack specifically directed at the women & children travelling to Helm's Deep, not to mention the obviously suicidal bomber Uruk who blows up the Deeping-Wall)

Continuing with the Lord of the Rings referencing:

"All you have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to you."

I think I'll go start a thread about our security in relation to our liberty, somewhere in the C.S. Lewis philosophy club section.

Pffff, that is hard news to take in again. :( I am not scared by this but I am saddened and disappointed instead. They want us to be scared and they want us to panic... their motives are usually also directed towards the idea of causing fear in the hearts of others and so I definitely refuse to feel any fear right now. I am angry instead, angry that people take such courses of action, angry that they endanger the beautiful lives of others in this way, angry that they have no qualms about tearing families apart and no regrets about tearing groups of friends down to the ground... I'm angry at them for causing such negative energy to erupt out of them into our Earth and into our hearts.

Yes, I am worried. I am worried about what's next. I am worried about any kind of retaliation which is most certainly going to come. I am worried about future events and I am worried about what this will cause upon our Earth. I refuse to be scared but that doesn't mean that I'm not worried. I just feel that this can only go from bad to worse unless we pack together and send some positivity out instead. Being scared often prevents you from sending positivity out and so I am wide open to the world and sending out everything I've got without fear. I'm sending things out now all across the nations on Earth because I refuse to bend to the will of anyone whose actions have so far only spoken about negativity to my soul.

Together, we can pull through this. Through prayer and aimed positivity we can overcome a lot already. Choose not the path of fear, which only leads further into shadow and retaliation by force, but choose the path of purity which leads us all right up to the light and love from Heaven above.

there was a recent terrorist atempt in an airplane on it's way to the united states. good thing the officials were able to catch them before the plane even took off. they were aressted imideatley. right now, the british people are getting paranoyed (sp?) and pist off because they british government would not allow them to ride aboard a plane not unless you have a see-through bag. (like those plastics you usually buy in supermarkets...)

im not sure if you guys heard of this news. but i would just like to alret you, especially all British people. CNN news suspects it's an atempt of Bin Laden on the United States and England, being their number 1 allie (sp?). i dont really know what the complete story is about. i just wanted to alret you. t.y.

I saw that on the tv ( CNN) and was horrified. What's sad is...and scary...the terrorists always seem to find a WAY to bomb or attempt to bomb a plane. Remember when the guy had explosives in the sole of his shoe, and now we all have to take our shoes off?

I'd rather be safe than sorry. What I plan to do now is when I go somewhere, it's always too heavy for me to carry on a bag with shampoo and all those toiletries I have like lotion, conditioner, etc. I will forgo all that and just buy little bottles at the store wherever I end up flying to, so I can pass through security easier and with a lighter bag.

Maybe I'm just in denial here but the terrorists' continual evolution of finding clever ways to 'terrorize' just scares me. I hear they arrested about 24 people in London, all between the ages of 17-35, and that a few of them were Pakistani, but most were local Muslim Extremists.

oh my god i was so scared!

my two bfs were staying the night and my dad was all put on the news they tried attacking us again! (and we were watching crule intentions! ) so we did and we were like so scared we turned off the tv and got under the blankets and fell asleep. lol. it was scary and we were like i hope they dont come to Phoenix!

lol, but it worked out. they cuagth the bad guys and my friends and i were safe. ;) lol.

Now that would be terrible if we could only carry plastic bags...I have a lot of stuff so I'd most likely get on the plane with a big Hefty garbage bag :D :D

Just so everyone is clear about it, the terrorists never made it to the plane. They were being tracked by Scotland Yard for several weeks. And the authorities waited as long as possible before making the arrests in order to catch the most people possible.

The plan was to smuggle liquids that could be mixed to make explosives onto planes and detonate them in mid-air. So if you live in the UK or America, for now, you can't bring anything liquid or semi-liquid onto an airplane in your carry-on baggage. That means no deodorant, shaving cream, nail polish, or toothpaste, or anything like that.

This attempt was not a new idea, either. They first thought of it in the 90's and wrote it down as an idea. We found out and were making sure it would never happen. The terrorists aren't finding new ways to bomb us, they are recycling old ideas.

The best way to fight the cause of the terrorists is to understand why they're attacking us. It's not that they want us all dead. And it's not that they want to take over the world. They feel like they are under constant threat by the western superpowers like America and Great Britain. They see people starving and being killed in their countries and blame "the West" for a lot of it. They have waged war against the people who they think are hurting them. As terrorists, they are trying to affect political change through fear and terror. Their goal is to create enought fear that other countries will be willing to do things like lift sanctions and end occupations. They think theya re doing best for their people. They think they are doing something their government can't do. They think they will be rewarded for their efforts in paradise.
