C.S. Lewis Quotes II

"We may ignore, but we can nowhere evade, the presence of God. The world is crowded with Him. He walks incognito. And the incognito is not always had to penetrate. The real labour is to remember, to attend. In fact, to come awake. Still more, to remain awake."

It is but froth of folly to rebel
For thou art Lord and hast the keys of Hell. C.S. Lewis

one of my fave Quotes

If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. C.S. Lewis

"Talk to me about the truth of religion and I'll listen gladly. Talk to me about the duty of religion and I'll listen submissively. But don't come talking to me about the consolations of religion or I shall suspect that you don't understand."

I couldn't resist this one for today even though I dread it a bit...

"Thirty was so strange for me. I've really had to come to terms with the fact that I am now a walking and talking adult."

I love this one too. Now I feel so bad that I have not read more of CS Lewis. It's like hearing Aslan speak! My heart was just aching to know more of God as I read all the quotes. They are all awesome.

I only have my favorite quote from Narnia (Last Battle):

"I'd rather be killed fighting for Narnia than grow old and stupid at home..." - Jill Pole.

"But progress means getting nearer to the place where you want to be. And if you've taken a wrong turning, then to go forward does not get you any nearer. If you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about turn and walking back to the right road; and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man."

" We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be."

And from LWW:
"Turn him into stone? If she can stand on her two feet and look him in the face it'll be the most she can do and more than I expect of her."

I felt exactly this way a couple years ago, when all I had read was CoN, Mere Christianity, and Screwtape, but then I went through all of his theological/philosophical writings from then until now and all I have to say is WOW it was soooo worth it! So I would totally encourage you to do the same. He didn't write a "bad" book - they're all great.

and excellent quote from the Last Battle!

Here's one from one of his best books, The Great Divorce. It comes at the pinnacle of the story:

"Here is Joy that cannot be shaken. Our light can swallow up your darkness, but your darkness cannot now infect our light...Can you really have thought that love and joy would always be at the mercy of frowns and sighs? Did you not know that they were stronger than their opposites?"
So powerful. And it reminds me almost exactly of the Last Battle, with the dwarves.

"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell."

^I love this one.

"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one.'"

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Obedience is the key to all doors; feelings come (or don't come) and go as God pleases. We can't produce them at will, and mustn't try.

nice Lucy ;)

I love that one on feelings and obedience, Kathryn

This quote is from Miracles, chapter 14, "The Grand Miracle"

"The New Testament writers speak as if Christ's achievement in rising from the dead was the first event of its kind in the whole history of the universe."

"But what, you ask, of earth? Earth, I think, will not be found by anyone to be in the end a very distinct place. I think earth, if chosen instead of Heaven, will turn out to have been, all along, only a region in Hell: and earth, if put second to Heaven, to have been from the beginning a part of Heaven itself."
