C.S. Lewis Quotes II

I remember reading one of Mr Lewis' quotes somewhere, and somehow it always stuck with me because I believed it was true. It was something like:

"Writing is the cure to all human ills."

This is one of my all time favourites by any author:

"In the Trinity Term of 1929 I gave in, and admitted that God was God, and knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all of England...The Prodigal Son at least walked home on his own feet. But who can duly adore that Love which will open the high gates to a prodigal who is brought kicking, struggling, resentful, and darting his eyes in every direction for a chance to escape?"
--Surprised By Joy

^That is a very powerful quote, Tim!:)

Thats a great one, Lucy! ;) Is that from MC?
One of my youth pastors sent me that quote along with a daily devotion, but I don't think it's from MC.

"But the great thing to remember is that, though our feelings come and go, His love for us does not. It is not wearied by our sins, or our indifference; and, therefore, it is quite relentless in its determination that we shall be cured of those sins, at whatever cost to us, at whatever cost to Him."

"If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world."

One of my favorites, which I think has been posted before:

"You're so beautiful. I'd rather be eaten by you than fed by anyone else."
Hwin the mare, Horse and His Boy

The more you think about it, the more profound it is. Almost brings tears to my eyes.

Don't know if this has already been posted or not, but.....

[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica][FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica]Surely what a man does when he is taken off his guard is the best evidence for what sort of a man he is? Surely what pops out before the man has time to put on a disguise is the truth? If there are rats in a cellar you are most likely to see them if you go in very suddenly. But the suddenness does not create the rats: it only prevents them from hiding. In the same way the suddenness of the provocation does not make me an ill-tempered man; it only shows me what an ill-tempered man I am. The rats are always there in the cellar, but if you go in shouting and noisily they will have taken cover before you switch on the light.

" We're free Narnians, Hwin and I, and I suppose, if you're running away to Narnia, you want to be one too. In that case Hwin isn't your horse any longer. One might just as well say you're her human.'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''';

Great ones Lucy and Earendil! :) I think that one about scribbling on walls is from the Problem of Pain right?

I got to use this one in my Bible study tonight:

"[God] and you are two things of such a kind that if you really get into any kind of touch with Him you will, in fact, be humble-delightfully humble, feeling the infinite relief of having for once got rid of all that silly nonsense about your own dignity which has made you restless and unhappy all your life."
--Mere Christianity

Amen to that!

Yes, I think....Love that book...

"He decided afterwards that the unearthly quality was due to the complete absence of that element of resignation which mixes, in however slight a degree, with all profound stillness in terrestrial faces."

C.S. Lewis Quotes III

"A continual looking forward to the eternal world is not a form
of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a
Christian is meant to do."

-- C. S. Lewis

I really like this quote, it's probably me favorite quote of his.

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
C. S. Lewis

The Glory of God, and, as our only means of glorifying Him, the
salvation of human souls, is the real business of life.

-- C. S. Lewis

Never, never pin your whole faith on any human being: not if he is the best and the wisest in the whole world. There are lots of nice things you can do with sand; but do not try building a house on it. ~C.S.Lewis
