Classic Novels Plus Cool Monsters

Some of you may have seen a series of good-natured satires, bringing horror-story elements into otherwise-unchanged literature. What I've seen so far was building upon Jane Austen: "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," followed by "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters." The author's intent was left intact; Mister Darcy and Colonel Brandon were still the good guys, and they still won the love of the heroines.

I have considered attempting a short monster-ized version of Thomas Hardy's novel "The Mayor of Casterbridge." I'm undecided what sort of monsters would be imported for the story. Maybe plain old ghosts. I wouldn't make the Mayor himself be a monster. The rest is undetermined.

I have so many other plates spinning already that it'll be months before I might be able to proceed with my own Regency-era romantic-horror novelette. Accordingly, if anyone else is intrigued and ambitious, I invite you to treat this thread as YOUR story-thread. First come, first served. Just as good if you start your own totally- autonomous fiction thread; but I hope to see somebody run with the theme.
