Cosplay!

Our own Gentle Voice frequently posts pictures on Facebook of her participation in dress-up roleplaying. She, and others, also display such pictures here on Dancing Lawn. But does anyone care to relate ANECDOTES of things happening when you were playing a costumed role?

I dress up as characters all the time, I haven't been able to do much elaborate cosplay so far but the most fun was dressing up as Hermione to go to school on Halloween. Because I always feel like Hermione.. ;)

My music professor was of the opinion I was dressed up as a 1950's college student.

I got lost of them!

Back when I was a sophmore in college my best friend and I went to see Revenge of the Sith as Anakin and the Emperor. We walked around school dressed in our costumes. Since it was finals week I tried to do a Jedi Mind trick on the professor to get the calss out of finals. The prof and the students got a good laugh out of it so it did provide some levity for an otherwise stressful day.

The best moment came when we went to our schools market area and ordered food in the names "Anakin Skywalker" and "Emperor Palpatine" one of the servers even called out the names.

Then when Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe came out this same friend and I stayed up late watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 and making cardboard swords and shields to dress as Peter and Edmund Pevensie. Since we live in Mn and it was winter we actually felt like we were in narnia, especailly with our colege campus having Narnia-esque lamp-posts.

Then when we went as Spider-Man and Sandman for Spider-Man 3, I heard a professor say ,'I thought Spider-Man would be shorter." and my favorite professor had me run into his modern mythmakers class ( where he teaches on superheroes as a modern mythology) in costume and as Spider-Man talk to the class. I made sure to pop back in as myself and ask if I he saw Spider-man so I could get a picture for the school paper. Then I later got a picture with my prof ( who looks kind of like Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee.)

You should really nominate yourself for HerUniverse's Year of the Fangirl. ;) in fact, all fangirls here should either nominate themselves or someone else for it. They pick a fangirl each day throughout the year. It's really cool. :D

As for me, I've never had the opportunity or means to do cosplay, which kinda depresses me. I've decided, though, if I ever get to go to Star Wars weekends/celebration, I will dress up as something. Just what I don't know yet...

I used to do a dramatic monologue in churches and Christian coffeehouses as Pontius Pilate, narrating the death and resurrection of Jesus. On one such occasion, there was a family sitting together in my audience, and a girl asked her father, "Is he _really_ Pontius Pilate?"

That means you were doing your part very well. :D haha. Okay, well I take it back: I have done cosplay before, if you count doing church plays dressed up as an extra. Which, I don't, but it was kinda fun to dress up in a costume.

I also did one as John the Baptist in prison, giving his final warning to a Herod Antipas who was imagined to be present and listening.

I have dressed up as Eponine from Les Miserables (and Gavroche one!), but I think my best costume is Rorscach from Watchmen, though sadly I don't have a picture of either.

I'm also in the process of planning a modern version of Nick Bottom (from Midsummer Night's Dream) but I'm not entire sure what to do.

I don't know whether this is relevant to this thread, but many years ago a group of friends and I who used to play Dungeons and Dragons occasionally had the opportunity to do live roleplaying. Generally, half of us would be the adventurers, whilst the other half played the monsters and other NPCs (non-player characters). One time I, along with others, were dressed as orcs/goblins and were waiting to ambush the adventurers, when a lady and a small child came across our group, and asked whether it was safe for her to proceed. As tempting as it was, we did not snarl at her in black speech and shout "Kill!" I think it was the same occasion that, when the party of 'brave adventurers' arrived and for their first encounter they saw us (dressed as orcs/goblins) they legged it, and we ended up chasing them for half a mile!

I cosplay characters from Doctor Who, namely, Amy Pond. I have gingerish hair, so it works out. I have a "Time of Angels" costume and a "Curse of the Black Spot" costume. I like Pirate Amy much better. I need a new red sweater for the Angels one. And new shoes.
I also cosplay a character from a musical called "Starship". Her name is Taz. I love that costume.
I would love to cosplay Castiel from "Supernatural", a Gonder knight from "Lord of the Rings" and the Doctor(I don't care which one) from Doctor Who.
