Different cultures

lol after taking my SAT (standerdized test before college) i dont think i fit in that catagory (i standerdize test terribly)
i get called a little blonde alot and am often the point of blonde jokes being told in my vicinity:D:rolleyes:

I know about those jokes :D They often make jokes at my work about blondes as well. Aren't you a part of your Oregon culture? If I visit Oregon, do I need to take a Ferny test? :D I would love to take an official ferny test!

oooh! a ferny test? is there such thing:eek::D
one of my best friends made a test "do you really know me". lol i got 17% right. haha:D
most of the blonds i know do know how to take a joke and tell alot of the jokes themselves

I know these tests!! I took one How much do you know me test as well with some other members on another board a couple of years ago. I was having 80% while I didn't know the girl at all. I guess the guesses were right :D
The blond jokes over here are not always nice or let's say "friendly". Some are fun but most jokes are rude and inappropriate. Nah...I will rather take the Ferny test!

hmmm... perhaps i will make one on facebook like my friend did lol:D:rolleyes:
oregonians also enjoy going to the ocean. it is much fun

Wow! This thread has gone wild :p That's fun! ^^ Keep on posting guys, I just finished reading all of the posts, and the description of both Iceland, Netherlands and the US was a fun and interesting read. (Sunflower, yes I know Harald Hårfagre. Even though we spell his name kinda differently)

Now some history about the Norwegian culture (Can't get enough of that, huh? ^^)

13th of August, 1905, Norway "recovered" after the black death that roamed Europe. Before this, Denmark had occupied the Norwegian country. Before the Black death, Norway was a big seaport nation, inhabiting one of the most barbaric kind of humans ever registered (Vikings). Norway was a big war, trading and exploring nation. It's estimated that around year 1000, the Norwegian vikings explored North America (Then you can start calculating when Christopher Columbus discovered it). Also around 1000 somewhere, many vikings migrated to Iceland. The reason was that Iceland was so much like Norway in nature, food, so on. One of the cultures I'm proud of the most is the Norse mythology (pre-Christian time). Our Gods in the viking age, and the understanding of the world was so much more different then the average European had, it's even hard to figure out how these guys was thinking. Thor and Odin was the most "popular" god: Odin being the wise chief God, and Thor being the God of the skies (With his hammer Mjölne of course ;) )

If you want more info on Vikings and Norwegian history, look up the "Kings sagas", written by Snorri Sturloson around 1220AD.

What is there to say about present time of Norway? Well; we're basicly spoiled brats taking way to easy on life. Norwegian humour is probably the most bizarre thing to ever happen. We can make humour out of anything, we laugh of everything, and think irony is the best thing in the world. Also, research shows that we're /big/ brats, having the average man to be 1.83 (almost 1.84)meter in average is not small. One thing I've personally found out which makes Norway unique is how you can actually joke to any type of Norwegian without getting in trouble for it (Try me).

Norwegians are passionate about their country, and they're passionate about moral and honour. If you happen to disagree with a Norwegian, don't even bother to argue. He will never bend to your opinion.

WOMEN play a big part in Norwegian culture. It's known worldwide how our women dominate the house (and who's the man in the house? I seriously get confused when hearing the phrase "man of the house").

National day: 17th of May.
National Anthem: Ja vi elsker (LINK: here )
National meal: "Smalahue" (a sheeps head) and "fårikål" (Lamb in vegetables)
King: His Majesty King Harald Rex.
Norwegian emblem: A lion, holding a axe.
Flag colors: Red, white and blue.

I think this was a clumsy way representing, but here ya go ;)

*laughs* Funny how similar our countires are Doffen :p I´m also really prud of our mythology! It´s so cool! And I also celebrate the 17th of May along with some relatives.
Here´s our anthem: God of our land, land of our God (an attempt to translate)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ0VhkNbmAQ

*chills* I love the Icelandic language. Old Norse is the most awesome language on earth (even though there's some difference, but you people certainly hold on to the language of Scandinavia)

Now this is probably the reason I will never stop saying my country is unique in nature. I love the nature (And I love -50 degrees at Kautokeino in the winter ^^). Here ya go. Link for you who wants to see some Norwegian nature

This is very interesting about Norway!

In the USA, we do not have but a few hundred years of history. In Texas, specifically, our mythological yearnings only go back about as far as the Alamo. To think you are descended from Vikings who were exploring North America (and places closer to home) thousands of years ago is very cool. It is also cool that you find Viking descendants in various places, like the beautiful people of York in England, tall, fair, lovely -- and their folks came from the some place you all Norwegians did.

Now, how is it the Dutch people are telling blond jokes? Aren't they all blond? Many Dutch babes I met in the ABC islands were very blond, and also smart and very straightforward.

In Texas we have a culture of our own, separate from the USA, in a way.

* We are the only state which is its own Republic, the Republic of Texas.

* We are going to do things our own way, come what may. Who says we can't put metal in a microwave oven?! Well, sometimes we carry this too far.

* We have oil, so if we have to secede from the union for any reason, we can still fuel our SUV's.

I love Texas. It is the Lone Star State. :)

Only problem with this is...there was a Republic of California and a Republic of West Florida. The Confederate song "The Bonnie Blue Flag" refers to the first flag that flew over the capital of South Carolina when it seceeded. The blue flag with one white star was actually the flag of West Florida (the panhandle plus large areas of Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi). It became the de-facto symbol of taking matters into your own hands. That interpretation has a lot to do with how the Spanish claimed the panhandle did not go with the peninsula when Florida was sold to the US, and the inhabitants objected and seceded from New Spain.

Of course we're making fun of you Inky. Not just a LITTLE fun because everything is BIGGER in Texas! :D

hehe, yeah, you do know that England had Norwegian rule for nearly 200 years right? ;)

Now, how is it the Dutch people are telling blond jokes? Aren't they all blond? Many Dutch babes I met in the ABC islands were very blond, and also smart and very straightforward.

Most Dutch people I've met has been blonde, yeah. We tell blonde jokes ourselves, though I find alot of black haired people in Norway, not blondes. If you go to Sweden, you will meet lots of blondes, and they tell blonde jokes all the time ;) ... Guess it's a way to make a fool out of yourself

:o I didn't know that!!

LOL!! Ever tried that? ^^ ... I've put a egg in before, but I'm not much into putting metal there.

We do to! We like oil, don't we?

I love Texas. It is the Lone Star State. :)

Was Texas a different country from the US before? I haven't read up much about Texas really

Since I love airplanes, I'm going to show some Norwegian nature from a F16 fighter plane (I watch way to many F16 videos). Hope you enjoy. CLUCK CLUCK

Bah, the link did not work for me! :(

Yah, Texas was an independent country for a short time. It was also part of Mexico I believe. We have a lot of Texican heritage, Mexico-Texas stuff like Tex-Mex food and Tejano music.

We don't really put metal in the microwve oven. We just don't like anybody telling us not to.

Fixed, Try again :)

Did you guys invent the Tacos? If so, you're the most inventive and generous people on earth! Generaly, I just eat food to eat it. Norwegians doesn't really have much tastefull food (no spices, as I guess Texans and Mexicans do). You would probably find our food awefully boring (You have no idea how boring you can make a potato)

Okey, so it was a part of Mexico. I think I have some studdying to do here. My American history doesn't go far.

Yah I know ;) I got your point, no worries :p

No, sorry, I was talking about Doffen's link!
Oh, good. Thank you.

Doffen, I believe Mexico invented the taco, and I believe Texas was once part of Mexico, so in a way you can thank us. Mexican food is very tasty. It would be sad to live in a place where the food was boring.

Now: was all that snow in the video what your country looks like, a lot of snow all the time? That would be very frightening.
