I voted for 2 favorites: Lady Sybil (simply lovely) and Violet, the Dowager Countess (no one can make a one-liner sizzle like Maggie Smith! haha).

When Downton Abbey was still airing on PBS, my girlfriends and I met at someone's house to watch each week's episode. I would furnish my tea service with 4 varieties of tea + cream & sugar! :D

Today, my local library is hosting a Downton Abbey Tea Party & Trivia at 5:30PM! Everyone is asked to come dressed as a favorite character. :p I can't wait! :cool:

Last night's Downton Abbey Tea Party & Trivia was a smashing success! (I am on the far left in purple)
18 ladies attended (including library staff). We drank tea, ate scones and other dainties... Watched clips of "The Secrets of Highclere Castle" (the REAL Downton.) etc. Several games were played...

Each lady chose their aristocratic name:

OK, Tivo got several season 3 episodes for me, and they are in order! So far, things are a little tense between Lord Grantham and the Heir Guy -- for a while it looked like the family was going to have to sell Downton Abbey but Matthew came to his senses and donated his almost-father-in-law's money to save it ... and Branson has arrived at Downton Abbey without pregnant Lady Sybil! He was running for his life after his Fenian cohorts burned down Dromgoole Castle (Maggie Smith's commentary on that whole event was hilarious!)

I will try to watch all the episodes tonight and tomorrow (all the ones that I got so far).

I love Downton Abbey ...
 
I would like to share my love for this show. I'm actually listening to the soundtrack right now. It's one of the most relaxing scores I have every heard.

Kind of spoiler for season three: IT RUINED MY LIFE.

No kidding. I actually knew about the two biggest season surprises before I ever saw the episodes, so I guess I was able to 'grieve' about them and move on. Still, I do get kinda depressed when I think about it. Especially the certain someone who dies in episode 4. :(

Possibly. ;)

It's probably worse than Sybil because the person playing the character decided to leave the show for good, and he/she has received lots of backlash from fans about it.
 
Hmmm ... Who can it be? Who would want to leave the show, anyway, it is such a hit? Bother all. :( I have to wait until next weekend, it looks like, for Tivo to get the next 3 (or 4) shows.

It's not Mr Bates is it?! That would be horrible ... or Anna!

You don't want to know. Trust me. I knew about the first one(curse you tumblr!) But the second one I had no idea what was coming. England did a very good job keeping it secret.
 
I am so tempted to ask Google who dies at the end of season 3 ... but I do want to be able to watch the program without dreading what's coming. I will have to wait until next week. The programs are airing here on Sunday evening, 3 in a row. If I had to pick someone to die, in order of least important to most important ...

1. James the new footman. He is arrogant, and O'Brien is setting up something bad between him and Thomas. :( But no one would be that upset if James died, so I know it's not him.
2. Matthew's mom, Isobel? She's annoying. But I like her OK, but if someone had to die... but again, no one would be that upset if she died ...
3. Edith. I like her, but she never has any luck, and I am tired of feeling sorry for her. Why didn't Sir Old guy go ahead and marry her? She's going nowhere. Maybe it's her!
4. Matthew. Yes, it would be horrible for Lady Mary, and they would be right back in the problem of having no heir, but I don't know, he's annoying too sometimes. I mean, I wouldn't want it to be him -- but I'd rather him than Mary or Lord or Lady Grantham or Maggie Smith.

I didn't include that maid Ivy because she's not hardly a character, nor Daisy, as she is maybe going to go live with that old farmer and be his heir after all so she has an easy out and doesn't have to die if the actress wants out...
 
Seriously Inkspot, I can see how much the others are just itching to tell you- as am i! But we shall RESIST all temptation!!

The death of Lady Sybil was soooo incredibly heartbreakingly realistic that me and my mum spent the rest of that day walking around the house in mourning- it was just like someone we knew had just died...

She was my favourite of the whole show! Ever since I watched the first episode, I kept wishing Sybil was the eldest instead of Mary and that she would be the one to marry Matthew (cuz he was my favourite guy in the beginning). But then came the enchanting Irish chauffeur who shut Matthew in the closet for me (well not that drastic-like :rolleyes:) and now he is the only one who can really take her place for me!

All i can say, Inkspot, is that the event you are puzzling over came as a complete surprise to me... and that's all i'll say because i really can't trust myself anymore!! :o
 
OK, I am up to the last episode, Christmas in the Highlands or whatever it is. I started watching. It appears Lady Mary is expecting, and insisting she can go to the Highlands on the train. Don't tell me she is going to go into labor, and her baby will die? I mean they couldn't have it so she died and the baby lived, because they already did that with
