I just watched the latest episode here in the USA. This is the one where there's a band for Robert's birthday. It was a watchable episode, but not much is happening at the moment. I will be anxious to see how the various plot lines develop...

That episode is actually 2 weeks old. Last week's episode was when the Dowager was sick. And I can already tell you, you will NOT want to miss the last 5 minutes of episode 6 (last week's).

I was unable to watch last night's episode, so I'm still waiting to view it. Our internet is horrible, and since we had a holiday here (stupid President's Day), everyone was off school so that makes it even worse. So, I'm hoping to watch it tomorrow. If not, I'll probably buy it because I can't watch the reruns.

As for your questions:
Rose-doomed. I don't see how anything good will come out of that relationship. I have nothing against the singer, mind you; but I don't think mindsets of the 20s will help that relationship flourish at all.

Lady Mary-the next episode kind of hints at a possible answer to that.

Edith-I'm not going to answer this one, because I've seen the episode after the one you've seen, and my answer would be a spoiler. I can say I was pleased with Edith's decision at the end of last week's episode.

Bates/Anna vs. Thomas/Baxter-again, I can't answer this because I think last week's answers it for the most part. But, I'd like to know what has made Thomas such a conniving, sneaky, backhanded individual. That *might* be a great exploration for future episodes, IF they don't delve into certain aspects of his character. If you get my drift.

I don't see Tom leaving. However, I've learned not to predict the outcome of these episodes.

And as for your last comment, you'll just have to watch last week's episode to find that out. :)

OK, I caught up to the episode where the Dowager was sick -- and I agree with your approval of Edith's decision. I don't know what they can do, moving forward, because she is in a bad spot for her time period and society. I have the next episode recorded to watch, but I haven't had time either. At least some things are happening now. I will respond again once I get a chance to watch the next episode. I am just waiting for Bates to kill that one guy ...

I finally was able to watch the latest episode. I tried to post yesterday but my cursor jumped and I hit the backspace, so it erased all my text. :( Anyway, I'll save my thoughts for it for when you get to see it. I was surprised in some ways.

Oh, and I'm a little sad that next week is the finale. I thought there was a Christmas special? :(

What? Yeah! I thought there was a Christmas special -- how the finale be here already? That's crazy!

OK, thanks, I will watch it as soon as I get the time.

Wait there is a Christmas Special- I watched it.... are they not going to air it in the US??

Not sure if they aren't, or if they are taking a break for a week or so. The one tonight is the episode that's an hour and a half, Rose's coming out ball. Is that the special? I'm pretty sure it is not since this episode takes place in summer.

Yeah..my sister told me that. I was rather bummed. What's up with Christmas 'specials' not being Christmasy?! Anyway. I'll wait on inkspot to see the last two episodes before I say anything more about them. :)

Thank you! I have them both recorded -- you can go ahead and make your comments, I will be careful not to read them until I have seen both.

That's so goofy about the "Christmas" special!!!

^ Gasp! :0

If I were in US watching it at a later point as they are, I'd be glad it isn't actually a Christmassy episode as I dislike Xmas references outside of December. ;)

OK, I finally saw the last 2 episodes. In general, I am happy with the way things are going. The only thing is: the last several minutes of the next to last episode got cut off! Did I miss anything? If any of my questions or comments below don't make sense because of something I missed, please let me know what happened. I was so mad.

**Spoilers**

Do we care if bates killed Green? Or do we think he deserved it? Do we know for sure that he did kill him, or do we just suspect?

What do we think Thomas has on Mrs Baxter -- and do we see romance for her and Mosely?

I really loved the character of Lady Grantham's brother, the shady American businessman. I wish he had made a play for that English girl who liked him! He is taking home an English cook; he should have taken home and English bride, too.

I also liked the way Lady Grantham's mother handled that broke Lord who was after her. She turned him down, but she's going to help him find a rich widow in America ... I like her character, and of course, Shirley MacLaine is a classic actress for the role.

What do we think of Ivy going to America? It's great for her ... but if she really did have any feelings for Alfred, it's too bad of her to go. I'm glad Daisy didn't go! And it was nice to see she is keeping up with that old man who is so fond of her because his dead son loved her.

What is going to happen to Lady Mary? Will she choose one of her suitors or someone else?

And what about Edith bringing her baby to Downton? I am very shocked, and I can't see how she can keep it a secret. Maybe Gregson will show up again, and they will be able to make a go of it with their child ...

This is all I can think of at the moment. I thought the ending was cute with Mrs Hughes and the butler holding hands in the surf. And I enjoyed the Prince of Wales at Rose's ball!

No, you didn't miss a thing. The episode ended with Mrs. Hughes and Carson holding hands on the beach. That was hands down the most adorable moment of the series.

I don't care that Bates killed Green, to be perfectly honest. His actions of murder are not justified, of course; but considering that justice in that day would not have been fair justice, I don't know how he could have done anything else. But I don't see problems with that later on, Mary destroyed the only evidence connected to Bates being in London at the time. It's always possible that Bates didn't kill him, or maybe he intended to and traveled there intending to kill, but maybe something pulled him back. Who knows?

[I know for a fact that season 5 is in full production, so hopefully this will be answered in season 5!]

I think Thomas knows something about Baxter's past. As to what that is, I don't want to guess. Maybe season 5 will also shine light on this. As for her and Molesley, if they don't put the two together, I would be surprised.

I think Ivy leaving Downton was inevitable. Maybe she'll even fall in love with that valet who was sold on Daisy.

Edith. Poor Edith. Trapped in a web by her own mistakes. I think it's sweet of the farmer to keep the baby a secret between Edith and himself; it says something of his character. It'll be interesting to watch.

Mary? finding that train ticket in Bates' pocket, made me think it was too convenient and perhaps there is a chance yet he really did not cause the death. I can't think of an alternative, though. If it is him and he gets in trouble, I'm fed up of all the problems coming his way. Can't Bates and Anna be allowed some rest?

Ivy didn't seem to do an awful lot and cuased a bit of aggro so I think it's for the best she's left now.

The thing I'm most interested in is what'shisface who went missing for so long, finally turning up again, and seeing how it pans out with Edith. He might be very keen to know the baby better if he finds out (likely). I don't know about anyone else, but when babies come along in TV programmes I switch off a little. The dynamics of characters change and all that and you get the bore of baby scenes... must be my lack of maternal feeling or something. :P

I'm the opposite. I was a bit disappointed they didn't show a lot more of baby Sybil and Mary's son. Hopefully we'll see them growing up in the next season and being more involved in the drama of Downton! :D

I'm, in a way, glad Edith is bringing the baby back- it's boring if it's away in another country and it'll be interesting to see the outcome...

Yeah, Ivy did cause a lot of problems throughout the time she's been here... And I still don't get why both her and Daisy were mad for Alfred, who's personality is so dull and un-charming!!! I mean, the American valet who fancied Daisy was so cute and funny, he was more appealing, to me, in that one episode than Alfred was in the whole season!

I'll always remember that thing Mrs Patmore said early in the series: "The trouble with you lot is that you're all in love with the wrong person!"

But it ended well! Mrs Hughes and Mr Carson holding hands in the sea was the best way to end it all! Till season 5... duh duh DUH!

I agree, I want to see the Downton babies growing up. :)

And I agree that the American valet was much more appealing than Alfred! Ivy didn't really like him; she thought the other footman was more fun and charming, but then he wasn't a gentleman and she got offended, so Alfred seemed like a port in a storm.

I will be curious what happens of Edith's baby daddy comes back; I hope he does. She deserves some happiness. But then, what will happen with the baby, you know? They won't be able to make her legitimate. It will be interesting to see.

OK, why do we think Thomas is so mean? He always wants to mess things up for other people, but why? Remember when he rescued the other footman (James, is it?) from those village toughs, even after they'd had a set-to because Thomas accidentally made advances at him ... It seemed like he (Thomas) was going to start acting right and trying to be a real friend, at least to James. But it hasn't worked out, and he's back to being all evil. What would make him so mean when really most people are pretty nice to him?

Just watched the third episode of the new series. :)

Is Jewel still about? else I guess I have nothing much to discuss! :P

Nothing too exciting has happened so far, but we are finding a bit of a follow on for certain things from the last series. It's also got a little 'saucier' in one respect, but definitely not over the top.
