Alzira suddenly awoke in the middle of the night having felt a presence above her. She turned on the light next to her bed and looked around. She saw her shadow up against the same wall that the window was but she thought there was something different about her shadow. It didn't look the same as it usually did and it looked to be overlapped by something else. When she turned her head to turn the light off, she saw out the corner of her eye that the second shadow had red glowing eyes. She reached for her bow and quiver but remembered that they were both in her closet so she hurried to get them and shot the thing square in the throat with one of her arrows. It screamed an infernal cry that was really high-pitched. To make it shut-up, she shot another arrow into its throat again and it went limp.
A deckhand that was out in the hallway just outside her door went to her room and knocked on the door and asked, "All you alright, miss? I heard a really high-pitched scream coming from your room so I thought I'd come and check it out."
She went to the door, opened it and answered, "I'm fine, thanks. The screaming you heard wasn't me but some kind of shadow creature that got into my room somehow. I killed it, though so it shouldn't make anymore trouble for us."
He nodded his head in understandment and continued on to do his duty. As soon as he was gone, she shut the door. She put her bow and quiver up against the wall near her bed, just in case she get another surprise. She then went back to her bed but before she went back to sleep, she looked around for another one of those shadow creatures. After she didn't see anymore, she went back to sleep.
