Emigrants From Punksteema

Those who've been diligently wading through my isolated world of Punksteema will remember that this alternate Earth is totally unlike us geographically but very much like us in racial and cultural diversity. For instance, Jesus is known here as "Ishwa," but Punksteeman Bible translators (notably "The Alliance of Faith") know Whom they believe.

Punksteema began to get UN-isolated only after one good-aligned winged demigod, the Colorless Quetzalcoatl, was called by God to set sail for the wide-open Milky Way Galaxy. When the wicked wizard Jaheg-Jorod was slain by Sir Ronald of Goliad, Punksteema's spiritual atmosphere became SO MUCH healthier that it could spare still more superhuman protectors. At the same time, Quetzlcoatl has lately spent most of his time in a Narniaverse reality. Any gap in super-being availability can be filled in by Ultraviolet Griffin, or maybe the good wizard Hector von Bootblack.

I remind readers that Punksteema's rotational period is so much faster than ours that it forces watersheds from north and south to form one vast Equatorial Ocean. The south continent is called Wellvernia (a play upon H. G. Wells and Jules Verne), while the north continent is Arcondoyla (for Arthur Conan Doyle).

There's a ton of pastiche to be had, including takeoffs upon "The Witcher," "Gormenghast," Japanese myths, Jane Austen books, and Shaolin monks. Involved in several of these plot threads is my version of John Wick, renamed Jonawiku. As years pass, with "Captains of Skilled Labor" growing more important in Punksteeman societies, there is less need for a jujitsu expert; so Jonawiku will be reassigned in the galaxy at large.........

The original Towermen saga was embedded, piece after piece, within the (as Evening Star eventually pointed out to me) ABSURDLY over- extended "Spacebullies Two" story-thread. Like skipping stones, you had to skip many pages ahead before seeing another Punksteeman episode.

Page 9, dated July 25 2021, contains mentions of Smoke Maidens, the direct female counterpart of Towermen. Also on this page we meet Judy Lightheart, the folksinger of Creekport, who eventually marries Billyboy Jeralo. These two, plus Jonawiku my John Wick equivalent, ARE PRECISELY the characters meant to emigrate from Punksteema. I'm pretty sure that Jonawiku won't remarry till he's on one of my previously established Earth-variants. (Must review them to decide which

When Sir Ronald slays the evil necromancer Jaheg-Jorod, the overall spiritual environment of Punksteema is so thoroughly cleansed that there is less need for anti-magic measures. This enables Ronald to retire, and to marry private detective Zoralee Jeralo. Zoralee's brother Billyboy is a werebeast, but retains his human soul and free will, thus is no threat to anyone who ISN'T evil. Note that Billyboy is married to Judy Lightheart, the Judy Collins look-alike folk singer from the town of Creekport in Gromstark.

Other parallel nations on Punksteema include a version of Mervyn Peake's "Gormenghast," an equivalent of medieval Japan (but landlocked), a counterpart of late-medieval Poland with its hussars, and the territories of people resembling Native Americans on our Earth.

This will suffice for setup.

PART ONE

"Pardon the Fiddletons not coming up to see you off in person," said the native-American counterpart Best Rope Maker, laying his right hand on the wolfhound Readyrough and his left on the border collie Fish Hook. "Even with Marjorie Marshwood helping out around the estate, so that Readyrough and Fish Hook know their sub-adult puppies will be in good hands, AND even being assured that Hector von Bootblack or Ultraviolet Griffin would be able to facilitate an eventual return visit here, my tribesmen and I will also want to drop in on General Brendan and Daisyanne Marshwood-Brendan and THEIR children. We are still indebted to Brendan, and to his man Rutger Sharpe of the dragoons, for pushing back hostile tribes."

Jonawiku nodded. "And sooner or later I'll want to return and see my Tengu friends."
