Well, my favourite character is Faramir... it moved how he struggled to earn his father's love, and also his duty toward his kin and country (though in the film it was portrayed a bit 'villainous' rather than the book did). And Gollum, once again , he has real struggles in his life, and as I seem to recall in other stories, it is because of HIM so many events, so important, and the tragic end he had... also, that the story became directed in an important manner to him, altough never forgetting other characters.
Now, my favourite villains.

Sauron (If he had done more things, he will be more praised by me, so... that will be for the Silmarillion... I wonder, or I mean, I like to imagine that the female demon, Thuringwethil... was his lover)
It happens that I love those characters who are faceless or own ominous and vicious looking masks... making them almost as if they didn't have a face at all.
Alas, I can't say the same for Gothmog, but I like when there are some real grotesque monsters... that's what I like to threat Elves... they'll become sooner or later Orcs!

lobilia (yes, she is a villain, at least as far as bilbo is concerned)

i love Robbin the hobbit, he doesnt get much publicity though, since he didnt make it into the movie (at least, his name was never mentioned)i am such a hobbit freak, just dont pay to much attention to me and you might not get scared for your life...

galadriel,Finduilas, and rosie are by far my favorite females. galadriel was such a little rebel in her youth! lol and poor firiel died before she got to marry... and rosie is so adorable and so in love with one of the sweetest guys ever
