“This is insubordination,” the captain’s voice was getting louder.
“How so, sir?” Odyany didn’t waver. Something was going on and he wasn’t going to let it fall though the cracks. “You asked what I thought and I told the queen candidly my opinion. I have not crossed you in any way.”
“You are foiling the attack and now the queen as delayed us three days.” The captain was pacing, “Odyany I have loved you like a son and you know that. I have done everything in my power to help you to the position you now hold all I need is for you to stand by me in this. Can you do such a simple task?”
“A simple task? If I stand by you , Sir, I will not only be betraying myself and my comrades I will be betraying my country.” Odyany’s heart was racing. He could not believe he was saying this to his commanding officer. “ You always said that I had a gut that would steer me right and in that knowledge I am going where it says and I am not easy with this plan. No , sir, it is not that I am not easy I think it is a huge mistake and that Swavaienna will pay for it and I am not willing to let my conscience rest with that.”
Odyany, every war has it’s price.” The commander stated bluntly.
“Yes but every nation does not have to be destroyed because of it. One wrong choice in this war sir and Swavaienna will fall. The rebellion is stronger than you or I could imagine and they will want to destroy her as soon as possible.” Odyany leaned across the table and looked the commander in the eye, “My first loyalty is to my queen, then my nation, then my duty and I will not waver on this opinion, sir.” Odyany could see the face of the caption turning shades of red. He was angry but Odyany held his ground.
“You will know who is in charge here, Commander Polegyak.” The Captain said as he walked out of the chamber. This was the first time that they had ever disagreed and it bothered him. Why was the Captain so insistant on this plan? Perhaps the girl was right. He shook his head. She couldn’t be right…she couldn’t be.
