He bit the ring off of Frodo's hand and fell over the edge into a river of molten lava. Frodo was supposed to throw the ring in himself because the ring could only be destroyed where it was forged. Unfortunately, he couldn't bring himself to do so. Gollum suddenly appeared, they fought, then Gollum fell in.

Despite what is commonly believed, the fall into the pit did not kill Gollum. But oh, that sudden stop at the bottom...turned him first into a "sail possum" and then into a "crispy critter." :D

Ha! I love your alternate ending.

omg lol my little sis thought it was sad when Gollum died...she thinks he sooo cute and she loves him and is like his #1Fan and she'll act like Gollum and whenever I say "narnia is better than gollum" she'll jump on me and beat me up, its just playing though..lol

lol. I hated Gollum. Though I can do an impression of him quite well. He was char broiled after the magma was done. The ring survived a second longer than it was supposed to because it stood on his ashes. Ew

Poor Gollum. :( What a sad, strange little fellow. I think he had the opportunity (much like poor Saruman) to repent and "begin anew" and "make amends," but in the end his lust for the One Ring overcame him. Yet, in the end, he was the one who brought the threat of the Dark Lord to a complete end. His role, for good or evil, was fulfilled.

Why?? I was kind of glad to see Gollum die, even though he was pretty funny in The Two Towers.

I don't know. He was just a character that I fell in love with along the way. He tried so hard to be faithful to his 'master' and didn't make it :(

True. He got annoying sometimes. I love his bit in The Two Towers where he's talking to himself and when he's telling Sam to keep the taters. So funny!! :D

That was hilarious! I remember laughing out loud in the theater along with everybody else. Peter Jackson did an excellent job on that scene!

Gollum was so adorable! I would have him as a friend. You know how much fun that would be? Although, I would have to sleep with an eye open
