Has anyone ever been to Oxford, England?

I do actually live in Oxford as my profile suggests. It is a beautiful place to live, I feel lucky.

Has anyone else ever been here? Perhaps made a pilgrimage to C.S.Lewis' home town?

I used to drink at the Eagle & Child pub where the Inklings used to meet. There is a plaque on the wall which tells customers about Lewis' and Tolkiens meetings.

I've been quite lucky in where I live in this life. I was born in Prague and then moved to Geneva for a few months before settling in Oxford as a child. I spent the rest of my life here apart from 6 years in Cheltenham (another nice town - called the garden town).

Oxford really does have that mystical quality that you sometimes hear about, or that you see in Inspector Morse films. The dreaming spires and all the history make it special.

I have visited Oxford on a number of occasions, and passed through on trains, buses or coaches on numerous others over the years. I agree with your assessment, it is a very pleasant and interesting city.

I have never been to Oxford, but I am really hoping to be able to spend a semester studying there in a couple years.:)

I only live here but some people have studied here and been part of the University. You gotta be smart to get in.....

I've never been to Oxford, unfortunately, even on my trip to England, Ireland and Scotland this summer, but I did have a friend who studied abroad there, at Oxford University, for a semester. She really enjoyed the city, brought back a lot of great pictures, and described the wonderful university library in tremendous detail. I hope that I'll be able to go to Oxford one day, because I did enjoy my trip to the UK, and I would love to go to the pub where the Inklings met, but, alas, I'd have to return to the UK only after I've made a trip to Italy, the other country that I really want to see (and which I haven't visited yet).

I got to visit Oxford a couple years back with my family and enjoyed going on a C.S. Lewis and friends tour (the Kilns, Magdalen College, Tolkien's home, Holy Trinity (Lewis' Church and where he is buried, sites pertaining to the Doug Gresham and Joy Davidman Lewis, etc), though we didn't actually get to eat at the Bird and Baby (we went by but had something else going on for dinner that night). I also enjoyed the Ashmolean Museum, Alice's Shop (inspired by Lewis Carroll), and of course the gloriously humongous Blackwell's bookstore!

Sounds like an awesome trip to a charming city:D

Our very own Powl' goes to the University there! She used to live in Congo but now she's there studying. For a long time, since she was 14 she wrote here that it was her dream to go to Oxford. That dream has come true and I know she's having a blast! She hasn't been on in a while but she usually drops in every once in a while. I'm sure next time she's on she'll post on this thread if she sees it. Go Powl' !
