How Did Peter Know Who Prince Caspian Was?

I expect peter saw The ceatures of narnia and put things together for himself.i maybe wrong

Not to the point where he knows somebodys name before he`s even met him. In the book most of the plot with Caspian has already happened and the `Old Narnians` are already beseiged in Aslans How after loosing a major battle before the Pevensies arrive.
Thats when the horn is blown and Trumpkin, having been with Caspian since the beginning can tell Peter everything about what has been happening. What the Trumpkin of the film can tell tham is a lot less.

From what I remember from the film, when Trumpkin and Nikabrik burst out of the door in the treehouse the first thing they see is Caspian flat on the ground after having fallen from his horse and the horn lying a short distance away.
There is then a quick cut between Trumpkin`s head, the horn and Caspian before Trumpkin runs off shouting at Nikabrik to `Take care of this one, I`ll deal with the others`, thats the only look Trumpkin gets of the horn. Caspian makes a grab for, then blows the horn just before being knocked cold by Nikabrik then suddenly we`re with Lucy who`s just run in front of a taxi. The next time we see Trumpkin is in the council/trial scene.
Its not strictly speaking a plot hole, more a thinly papered over crack!

The most amusing consequence of the changing in the order of events though is that Aslan ends up delivering his `Nothing happens the same way twice` line twice.

I`ll try and clarify things a little.
Because of the film makers changing the order of events over what happens in the book a key character (Trumpkin) is captured much earlier than he is supposed to be. This means that in the film he is not present during several later scenes he was originally present in like Caspian waking up in the house, The Dancing Lawn and so on.
This is very important as Trumpkin is the first person the Pevensies meet once they arrive in Narnia (in both film and book) and pretty much their only source of information as to whats going on throughout the earlier part of the story.
In the film the first words Peter says to Caspian after the fight is something like "You must be prince Caspian, I believe you called". Now the only way he can know his name is from Trumpkin, who has had only a glimpse of Caspian or the horn in the opening scenes and it was in the dark.
As I`ve pointed out earlier, its just possible that Trumpkin could have put everything together provided he has very good night vision, an excellent memory and pretty smart.
The appearance of the horn COULD be immediately recognisable to any Old Narnian due to its mythic status and its sound could have some sort of magical effect to it (this is hinted at in the book) that everybody close by (Trumpkin, Nikabrik, Trufflehunter, Glozelle and the other Telmarines) can feel when its blown. Prince Caspians name is mentioned in front of Trumpkin during the Telmarine Council/Trial scene so he would know that Miraz and the others are looking for a missing prince.
Perhaps he can work things out during his imprisonment or maybe it happens later during an unseen campfire conversation with the Pevensies where they piece things together.

I don't think Peter knew it was Caspian immediately. He says, "Prince Caspian?" as if asking to make sure. They never show that Trumpkin tells the Pevensies about Caspian or anything else. Now that I think about it... How did Peter know?! He was never told the name in the movie. Caspian knows who Peter is of course because of his sword and the sisters.

well maybe they show it, but it's in a cut scene, OR, we don't need to see when trumkin tells the story, because the makers thought we would guess it:o

I always just took it for grated, but I guess we'll find out as the DVD comes out. But, they also leave that one seen with Trumpkin saying "Where have you been for the past few hundred years?" and that probably led into his telling of the story.

My theory? Peter went down to Borders and picked up a copy of Prince Caspian.

Haha!! Love it!

Actually, that would be very unlikely. As a Telmarine, Caspian would not have been at all familiar with native Narnian folklore - in fact, you'll remember from the book that he was only told snatches of it.

yes, but we know there's not the scene when Badger tells Caspian the story, but we know he does, if you saw the movie he says "don't you know what this hors is ??" and then we don't see what happens but we know he tells him, so maybe he mentioned King Peter's sword

Even if Caspian did know that High King Peter had a famous sword, he wouldn't necessarily recognize the sword itself on sight.
