Yup, I agree. LOTR movies were a lot different from the books, but still good, and a lot of the themes were left in place. Eragon was just plain weird. I didn't, uh, actually watch the whole movie cuz I found it to be lame.

Hey, that's good news! And fans will support the franchise as long as the writers don't go too crazy with the basic themes of the stories.

I personally think everyone's concerns are legitament. I believe as many of you do that they should stick with the original story of the book and keep the deep truths and Christian allegories alive.

I never finished watching Eragon because I was so dissapointed, but I heard that Arya went back to Ellesmera without Eragon and Saphira, and her and Eragon kissed and everything, and that it ended with a cliffhanger. Is this true?!

Arya did return to Ellesmera without Eragon and Saphira, she did not kiss Eragon, and there was a cliffhanger.

You know what drives big corporations like Disney right? BIG RAINBOWBACKS! (I was going to say greenbacks but that's not the case anymore). Yes, $$$ that is all that matters. As long as the project brings in enough for those big fat bonus checks for certain execs they wont mind what kind of story it is.
I truly hope that they seriously think about values and family entertainment but I am afraid that if that does not bring enough cash, they wouldn't mind changing anything (even Narnia) to something that would.

Am I making sense?

Anyway, what I want to say is that I hope they are not compromising values for $$.

If Disney decides to drop Narnia later on down the road, can't Walden work with like, Warner Bros or another company....maybe?

Yes they can. It is Walden who owns the rights to Narnia, not Disney.

Hmm, that's interesting...I always thought Disney owned the rights. I think as long as Douglas Gresham and the right people are involved there is hope.

Nope - Walden owns the rights. Disney was only brought in to help market.

I really fear that the series will not be completed. We all know that the BBC version ended with "The Silver Chair". Being made by the BBC us Americans never really were exposed to to this series except through public TV, which no one watches. So the BBC version just died out for lack of interest. Yes, we have commitment for VDT, but that is it really. I feel that "Prince Caspian" will do very well this summer, but time between the movies are too great. VDT will not hit theaters till summer 2010 at earilest and maybe not till Christmas 2010. VDT is also a very different story. There are no battles and climatic ending. You don't even get a battle with the dragon because the dragon is a good dragon. The story is just an "adventure of honor". With the again delay of theater release (2 1/2 years) and a much slower story line, I fear that VDT will not make as much money as PC will. We may get "The Silver Chair" and end there. And I read that the only other book that is even being talked about being done after SC by Waldon Media is "The Magician's Nephew". I fear the producers have already lost interest in making all the books into movies. And remember, SC will problably not come out till sometime 2013. I know Douglas Gresham wants to do them all, but I feel it will be like pulling teeth to keep the movies comming. Sense is appears that the movies are going to be made on the traditional 2 to 3 year interval, waiting to see how the movie does in the theaters before making a decision on production of anothers movie, there is always so much time for Walden to totally lose interest and want to go into a different field. And sense the last 4 books take you into totally different aspects of the Narnia story with different charaters, producers will feel they will be losing the franchise. And as I have always felt, no one is going to want to being in the Calormen and risk upsetting the Muslim community. I am 90% sure the movies will stop at SC.

That's a shame. HHB is actually my favorite book in the Chronicles...I would love to see that on the big screen... Oh well, they're still awesome books and at least the popularity of these movies are exposing more people to the CoN...
