Defender, I can completely sympathize with you, but I still consider the "Dawn Treader" movie to have been MUCH LESS of a betrayal than "Prince NON-Caspian" was.
Consider Shakespeare plays. When Shakespeare produced a play about, say, ancient Greece, his actors would still be wearing the clothing of Elizabethan England; but the PERSONALITIES depicted in the play would still be worthy of attention. The "technical" departure from the source material did not mean that the play did not give us valuable thoughts about the historical era being depicted. Moreover, present-day Shakespeare productions often dress the actors in costumes for periods long AFTER Shakespeare's lifetime, without ruining the message.
Although the analogy is admittedly loose, I think that the added plot concepts in the "Dawn Treader" were more like having wrong-era costumes in a Shakespeare play. The CHARACTERS were still fairly close in personality to the book. "Prince NON-Caspian" maliciously dumped garbage on the the very NATURE of the heroes.
Concerning Douglas Gresham: I used to have the privilege of corresponding with him. Speaking of what a person's nature is, Mr. Gresham has a life independent of the maintenance of his stepfather's legacy; and in this life, he conducts commendable ministry activities. For instance, he founded a group called The Society Of Centurions, which specializes in spiritual help to healthcare professionals who have been guilty of killing unborn babies but have repented of it. Douglas Gresham has done so much good IN THE REAL WORLD, that even if he HAS blown it in artistic matters, he deserves better as a man than for us to think that C.S. Lewis would disown him.
