Ch.3
A Morning of Planning

The next day dawned clear and bright. The sun rose over the sea, casting jewel-like rays of fiery reds and oranges over everything they touched. The ocean looked like melted rubies adorned with gold tipped waves. The birds sang songs of joy, begging the people to wake from their slumber and join them in watching the sun rise.

Alik had woken before the sun was up. As the sun's light began touching the castle, he was walking down a long corridor, to the room where the council had met the night before. He opened the two large doors, and found himself still alone.

"Good," he thought, "I will have time to think before the others arive."

He walked over and sat at the head of the table, with his back to the arched windows and the ever-rising sun. He rested his elbows on the table and put his head in his hands. A vividly red leaf fluttered in from the window and landed on the table. Absent-mindedly, Alik put the leaf in his pocket. He began to pray.

About ten minutes later, Briarwood, Topin, and Lord Ginavin came into the room talking. The fell silent when they saw the king. Alik looked up at them and said, "Come in! I've been praying for guidance for our journey as I waited for you. Where is Glondil?"
