Honestly, I tell you, he will eventually have it cut again for the next film.
And how he grows his hair is not really a concern for us. Because he probably had quite good looking long hair before the first movie. He was very stressed about it in the Audio Commentary.

Though, personally, I say we (as in most of you) are just used to him having short, clean-looking golden-brown hair that it is shocking to see the real deal upfront like that.
