Okay I kinda noticed that this thread looks a little dominated by the guys so heres a topic for and about the ladies.
I love Arwen! She is so beatiful and sacrifices everything for Aragorn! To bad she stole Glorfy's scene... but she needed more screen time!!
Who's your fav Lotr Lady?

Btw the poll is multiple choice! Pick as many as you want!!

I would like to share why I voted for Finduilas, wife of Denethor II, as my favorite.

Although there is so little in the way of information pertaining to her life, what does exist makes one well up with tears. She is a very beautiful woman (I envision her as one who was very serene and reserved, speaking only when need required, and eminating such inward radiance as to be well-loved by all who knew her, especially her husband, who put his joy and happiness in her and in his firstborn, but sadly not so much in his younger son - although his love for Faramir was always strong, especially towards the end of his life, the picture-perfect son for Denethor was found in Boromir).

I equate the story of Finduilas (as found in the Appendices in The Return of the King) to another of my favorites, Tar-Míriel, last Queen of Númenor. She was forced into an illegal marriage with Ar-Pharazôn the Golden (who renamed her Ar-Zimraphel), and so tragically in the end perished with Westernesse. Doom awaited her through sadness and sorrow, and so it was with Finduilas. Her heart turned ever south to the sea she so dearly missed, and the sight of Mordor in the East filled her with dread and fright.

In a word, tragic.

Tolkien's stories have touched my heart, especially those of tragic love (Arwen and Aragorn, Lúthien and Beren, Denethor and Finduilas, etc.)

Eowyn! She deserved more screen time in the movies! She was brave, bold, determined. She rode to war to protect her guardian, accepted Merry for the warrior he could be and helped him to excel. And she overcame the creeping shadow of death through love for Faramir. A delightful heroine.

i kinda had a tough time deciding between eowyn, galadriel, and arwen, but galadriel i voted for anywho, as she whoops rear!she could out perform many a scholar, athelete and lore master in valinore...oh and she started tearing down dol goldur's(i think there's supposed to be another u in there?) walls by herself! :D it's also rumored that the bow string of legolas' bow(the one he got in lorien) contains a strand of galadriel's hair-hence it never broke...hehe :)

Great Responses!!

(btw you can pick more than one)

That's great!! I didn't know that about Galadriel, Gondor Knight of Narnia, that's cool!
I like Goldberry to... I was kinda dissapointed when neither she nor Tom Bombadil were in the movies but I wasn't surprised... their appearance in the movies would have just made the plot slow way down... and they didn't need that on a 3 hour film!

thanks for telling me i can do that! :D i saw the lotr movies before i read the books(well, the fellowship and the two towers anywho) fall 2003 i had a classmate who was really stoked about seeing rotk and i was curious and bored and impatient to see it...so i read rotk...1st of the lotr books i read!(i'm not trying to confuse anyone with all the acronyms, so i appologize if i am! :) )

the point is i didn't know tom bombadil even existed till i read the fellowship last fall...THEN i was disappointed he wasn't in the movies...peter J. could have put tom bombadil and other stuffs in the movies and made more than three...but what would he have called them?fellowship of the ring, pt.1, etc??lol :)

BTW-the appendix's on rotk are full of all kinds of goodies-like what happened after the ring was destroyed and what-not,that's where i found out galadriel tore down the walls of dol guldur-although it was in the silmarillion i found out about her out performing atheletes and etc... :D

OMG! I had no idea Finduilas was in the LOTR books! I just saw the name on a site and liked it! lol! I voted for Eowyn. No idea why. I just did. This sounds pitiful compared to your other answers I know, but oh well.

She had elf-blood in her, I believe.

I voted for Luthien, because of her selfless love for Berren - but I gotta say, I'm a little disapointed with the list...Melian isn't on there.

There were great sacrifices on both Arwen's and Luthien's side when they married mortals, but Mellian was the only miar (sp?) who married one of the children of Ilvatar. I always loved the story of her and Thingol.

I'm with GC (I'm not surprised your reasons for voting for Luthien are the same as mine; I find it amusing that I hadn't seen your post 'til after I voted, sooo...)

And, I also agree with GC 'bout Melian--why isn't she on there?! :p

I think Luthien and Melian are my favourites in Silmarillion!

I completely agree! Well said. ;) (you probably could guess who I voted for)

I voted for...uh...guess who?!, Luthien Tinuviel, and Gilrean. I memorized the Lay of Luthien once, and you can read about Gilrean in the appendix. (I forget which one )
