Lucy Fighting In VOTD?

With Edmund's sword, there is a phenomenin called St Elmo's Fire that can cause metal objects to glow blue due to the ionization of the molecules around cerain objects. It is revered by sailors of old.

Well on one hand no, I doesn't concern me. We saw this happen with Susan in PC, she suddenly turned into a full fledged female Legolas. However in Lucy's case I am worried it could taint her innocent nature. Her unleashing a volley of arrows upon enemies is not exactly anthing I ever imagined her doing. But I suppose we shall have to wait and see, for all we know she may only wound one enemy. :)
.

If Lewis himself wrote that she had fought I do not think he meant to just cause an inoocent nick on an enemy. Aslan said both in the books and the movies that if she were any braver she would be a lioness. She is no longer the little girl we first saw in The lion, thw witch and the wardrobe in either format and it will not destroy my image of her but take it to a new height from that of an innocent little girl to that of heroic teenager.:)

Watch the Discovery Channel or the History Channel air a documentary on this "phenomenon."

I think it would be really different to see Lucy become a fighter, but the scene where she is shooting the arrow looks really cool. I usually don't like things that differ from the books, but for the films certain things have to be different so it appeals more to moviegoers.

I agree, Bookworm. And it's not that far off because in HHB, when Lucy is reigning as a grown-up queen, they mention that she goes to war with her brothers, and is as good as a man or boy for fighting.

And since that took place before during the Golden Age it makes sense she'd join in a battle if there was one.

I agree with you both. Lucy is getting older, and she isn't a child that has to stay behind or be protected anymore. I think I will read my Narnia books again after I am done reading Eragon.

She was given a bow/arrow, not a sword. I like that, too. As long as the reason for using it is good, the audience will accept it.

I think all of us Narnia fans will be ok with it. It's exciting that it's coming out this Winter. I really want to see the rest made into movies, because Walden Media has always done a wonderful job with adaptating the Narnia books into movies. I also love the BBC versions of Narnia too...sadly only four of the books were adapted into films for those.

I want to see all the other movies made as well but my cousin and I both agree that they ought to wait to make Last Battle until they have better tech. and more people who understand the books making it!:D
Personally though I'm fine with Lucy fighting in Dawn Treader as there are several scenes in which there are skirmishes. As long as they haven't added TOO much I'm ok with it.:)

Yes it would be better if they had better technology, because there is so much that goes on in "The Last Battle" and I don't want them to mess it up by rushing out and making it.

^Not only that, the book mentions that she was in the fighting top with the other archers, doesn't it? And from the trailer it looks as if she's using the arrows, quiver and bow that was Susan's, but I would hope that she gets her own set.

I don't think it would taint her at all. I have never viewed Lucy as being completely non combative. She is Queen Lucy the Valiant after all. She fought in the Golden years in the army and one of her gifts was also a daggar - which was basically a short sword.
She is sweet and loving and kind, but strong and courageous as well. I'm pretty sure Peter and Edmund would have made sure that Su and Lu knew exactly how to fight - and well - whether Susan was the warrior we saw in Prince Caspian the movie or not.
Besides, Queens do have the choice to fight remember? The only reason we haven't seen Lucy battling - or really even just shooting arrows - is because in LWW and PC she was still quite a small girl. She isn't now. I'm looking forward to seeing glimpses of Lucy of the Golden age!

That is true...but I wonder just how much she'll get to fight. Should be interesting either way though, and if they ever make Horse and His Boy, she'll get to fight even more!`

I'm okay with the idea of Lucy fighting, because it is not contrary to C.S. Lewis's Lucy character. With Susan the Gentle fighting in PC... that's a different matter entirely.

Another thing to consider, if I remember the clip correctly, Lucy is shown with arrow at the ready, not with her actually firing it. She may just get ready to do battle but never has to do so.
